Can't Lift 2019 Tacomas

So I am currently pricing a new Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD 6 speed manual trans and I just got an email from the sale rep saying they cannot do a 3 inch suspension lift because it throws off the new Toyota Smart Sense and then will pop up a light on dash and codes..............sounds like BS to me.

Anyone have a new lifted 19 model?

 

They said the same thing with 2018. Theyre full of shit and are just saying that to protect themselves from potential litigation.

I just think it is retarded, especially when I was a car salesman back in the day, something that would hinder you making a sale. The PRO is lifted....maybe only an inch but it is. She lost a customer.

 

Yep, your dealer is full of crap. Mine even OFFERS lifts. Sometimes they need to recalibrate the TSS system after a lift is done, but that's about the extent of it.

 

The dealership I purchased our 2018 said they no longer are doing lifts. "We're losing a lot of money."

I'm impressed dpippel that a Toyota dealer will do lifts on 2018+ trucks. Good for you and them!

 

My dealer doesn't actually perform the work themselves. They contract it out to a local off-road shop, but roll it under Toyota's warranty coverage on the vehicle. I'd wager a guess that's why most people who have it done at the dealership choose to go that route.

 

I didn’t know there were 2019’s on the lot? What is smart sense and how is that different from a 2018?

 

I was looking into ordering a TRD OFF ROAD and doing my own lift instead of a PRO.....this smart sense it Toyota's radar cruise control system that brakes and speeds up and also does the lane departure and more. It is standard now apparently.

 

This isn't her fault. TSS throws faults even stock. When it was introduced last year I'm sure this guidance came down to all Toyota dealers as Toyota corporate didn't want people messing with the geometry and having to deal with people coming back with faults. Now some dealers obviously take a different approach and work the system, by recalibrating the system after a lift.

These systems are very sensitive as I've read complaints that you can't even install an aftermarket windshield anymore since these systems won't work with them in some cases.

 

Archimedes thought so too, but nobody could give him a proper lever or fulcrum to prove it...

 

They are full of shit. I been at many Toyota dealerships with 3" lifts 2018 Unless ther is something different about the TSS on 2019 which I seriously doubt

 

Anyone know if you can lift a 2020 tacoma or will the TSS keep you from doing that?

Every time I read about TSS it angers me. Adaptive cruise control don't need it. I never use cruise controll ever. Auto high beams don't need it. I seldom use the high beams, and I know how to turn them off, and when to do so. I done forgot what else TSS does, but I don't need it.

 

Definitely not BS. But like some people have said already, if you lift you'd need to recalibrate the system. Maybe your dealer doesn't know how to do that. I'd much rather they say they can't do it than have them try and figure it out and mess something up.

Find a reputable shop that has experience with the system. It'll prolly be cheaper than having Toyota install a lift anyhow. JMO

 

The problem is you can't avoid TSS now if you want an 18+ taco. I would like the high beams though. It's a pain driving mountain roads and coming around a curve while simultaneously having to turn them off.

I was just preemptively asking the question about the 2020 since it's been asked about the 18 and the 19 now. TSS hasn't changed. It's the new "what size tire with stock suspension?"

 

Auto high beams are not great. They sometimes stay on when you don’t want them to and then the glare from road signs or other items will turn them off. Gimmicky in my opinion and experience
