What are some of the more major issues? Just curious.

Thanks for this. I think I am not going to use Grapevine Toyota anymore.

I finally took my 18 Sport in complaining of alot of transmission issues. Tech said there were updates to fix and applied. The paperwork doesn't state which version was installed, only that they did install one. I need to get my obd2 reader plugged up and figure out how to determine the current version.

Feels like it's relearning, but so far so good. Will know more in a week or two after it gets a few hundred more miles.

You should feel the difference immediately.

Right now it is rust on the driver's door sill that has me the most concerned with. I'd also really like the low RPM miss fixed. Being able to use CC like a normal person would be nice too if im honest. Nothing major, I like the truck, but it's almost becoming death by a thousand cuts.

Luckily I have escaped the worst issues with the third brake light leak, but at 30k miles and almost out of warranty, I got that to watch out for.

UPDATE: Okay, so I am back from my business trip and drove it for the first time this morning and WOW! It feels so different. My suspicion is they have aggressively changed the pattern of the torque converter lockup process for starters. Even pulling into our parking lot where it would moan and groan so slightly to pull up the small bump, it feel like it did some kind of minor shift VERY quickly to adjust to the small incline where as before it would grunt its way up. I have a lot more testing to do, but so far so good....

Took mine in last Friday for the 5,000 miles (Cherokee County Toyota outside of Atlanta) I mentioned to the guy "my understanding is there is a TSB to help correct the transmission searching issue" He told me they will run the VIN and apply any updates they have. 1 hour later the truck was updated (Noted in the invoice). You can feel the difference immediately...instant throttle response not chasing in 4th/5th.

Took the family to the N. GA mountains for a quick camping trip (Loaded with RTT and a bed full of crap) and the Crusie control was actually stable and the engine did not feel like it was going to explode. I could not believe it. I was averaging 17.8 -18.4 before the update and this last tank I was at 19.4 (with the trip to the mountains). I am overly pleased on how the truck drives now.

Scheduled my 20k mile service for this Monday at 6 pm. Put in the notes I wanted both TSBs. Also said to contact me if that is a problem.

    We shall see.

Post-TSB (2018 DCSB). This was driving down the interstate today for an hour against a 15mph wind. Does this look normal to you guys? It was holding 3400rpm almost the entire time.

To be honest, it was more similar to driving my 1998 4cyl than it was to my 2014 6cyl double cab. This one has me stumped...

Uh, I would no. That doesn't seem normal under any condition except maybe 90 mph.

Talk about no more hunting for gears.

This was a dealer flash too, correct?

EDIT: Any possibility that 15mph headwind was 20? That would put @ nearly 90mph, and probably right in line with the data.

So it was in 5th gear during that whole time? Thats what mine does - it wants to hold 5th gear alot (sometimes 4th) on the expressway with cruise control on - only when there is a headwind and/or an incline. These trucks should hold 6th gear much better than what they do. So do we all have lemons?

Stock suspension, stock wheels, stock bumper, stock, stock, stock, dammit!
There is one place where I have to accelerate quickly on a slight incline, and the truck just hates it! It feels like pre update right there, and once I get on the freeway, it hunts for gears for awhile. In town driving did improve with the update and I can accelerate quickly to change lanes on a flat surface. This fickle transmission is the difference between like and love with me regarding my truck. If this crap gets ironed out in a future model, I will trade this one in without hesitation, pun intended.

70 mph is roughly 3000-3100 RPM in 4th gear. At 3400 in 4th gear would have to be 75-80 mph. I'm not calling you out, just providing some data to help you analyze your truck. I can see it holding 4th in a headwind of 15 mph though.

My truck got serviced today. Was updated per my SA at the dealer. The AC was supposed to be fixed too. He did tell me that they found more rust though lol.
I will follow up tomorrow with my initial reactions.

He also told me my seatbelt was working fine and they could not repeat the miss. Not suprised on the seatbelt, but very suprised about the miss.

I took my 2016 TRD Off-Road to the Magnussens Toyota dealership in Palo Alto AND to Toyota 101 in Redwood City and both dealerships told me it's normal behavior and they can't replicate the situation because the TSB only makes mention of this issue happening in high altitude locations. I said "great, please feel free to drive it to the Sierras to replicate the situation". They said they couldn't do that and that I should contact Toyota Corporate. So, I guess I'll do that. Super frustrating.
