Hey, so I previously owned a 2016 TRD sport and my hill start assist was awesome. The minute I was on a hill and stopped at a light or anything and released the break my truck would just sit there till I pushed on the gas.

I just got a 2018 TRD Off Road and now it does not do that. The second I release my foot from the break my truck rolls back the traction control comes on and a clicking grinding noise starts. I don't even have time to move my foot from the break to the gas peddle before it starts doing that.

I took it into Toyota and they say everything looks like its normal. However I know for a fact how it should work from having a 3rd gen Tacoma and my new truck is not functioning correctly.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it or what did Toyota tell you.

pretty sure that noise is normal. mine has done it from the start. i thought that was the hill assist because it slows you down lol.

My 2018 OR does the same thing. Loud noise when it stops rolling backwards.

Brake system is completely different between the Sport and Offroad. All because of crawl control and MTS. One reason I picked the Sport, as I had a 4Runner Trail before with brakes identical to Offroad. I hated them.

The problem is that mine doesn’t even stop me from rolling backwards. The minute I take my foot off the break I start rolling. What’s the point of hill assist if I roll backwards and it didn’t stop and just makes that noise?

^^^this. Your OR has crawl, which uses brake actuators for control. The noise you hear is those noisy actuators, and it holds the truck momentarily in hill assist, then releases thus the noise. All normal. Try out your crawl, you’ll think your truck is trying to fly apart.
