I’m sorry to hear that but do contact corporate. There is no sense in this BS from the dealer.

As I said in an earlier post, my truck has gone down to 4th going 75mph with a headwind and incline - especially with cruise control. I dont know if this is what is suppose to happen with these trucks or not. I also feel that it shifts differently everytime I start it up. I am assuming its still "learning"?

Yep, dealer flash (TSB 58-18). I suppose there could have been 20mph gusts, but really doubt it was sustained. I checked wind speed a few times (*with a weather app*). 17mph was the highest I saw. Mostly 15mph, though. I was driving ~75mph.

It wasn't holding 6th. I do know that. I assume it was 5th or 5th lockup (I don't know much about the torque converter stuff)? Really doubt it was 4th, but I don't really know.

I have 30K on my truck. It still does the same. Seriously though, CC on the auto is trash in hills or wind. Heaven help you if you hit both...

I should add that 5th and 6th are both overdrive, so hitting 4th in itself isn't that big of deal. It is when it hits 3rd that it gets frustrating.

That sounds about right for the MPG honestly.

I was doing 75mph. You really think it was holding 4th and not 5th?

From what I gather here, it's sounding like 3400rpm was normal, based on ~75mph and a ~15-17mph headwind (perhaps a little more, as I was relying on an app for wind speed). The part that stumped me most was the gas mileage. I don't think I ever got that low of gas mileage in my 2nd gen, even under those wind conditions.

75 MPH would be right at 3400 RPm so it sure sounds like it. Like I just posted, keep in mind that 5th and 6th are OD, so if the truck struggles, it's gonna kick out of OD. 75 and wind sounds completely feasible to me. For giggles though, next time try S5 mode. I use S-mode alot on the highway now and have almost no complaits without having the TSB. S mode does away with the learning garbage.

I'm with you. Just today I started thinking my truck was reverting back to how it was pre-TSB. Especially around town. Clearly we're all acutely tuned into how our trucks are running.

Whether these trucks are shifting as intended or not, I don't know. But it's certainly not "normal" as compared to other vehicles. I get into other vehicles and just drive and they drive fine. I get into my truck and every time I drive it I think "man, this shifting is wonky".

I've driven through your area plenty. Hilly, windy, high altitude, yeah 4th gear often at 75 mph.

Not to rub salt in your wound, but I handed both my printed out TSB's to my guy and told him my truck was suffering from both and I would really appreciate it being updated. He said no problem.

Now the first time I used my dealer it was terrible so I emailed the service manager and voiced my frustrations, politely. Maybe try going to your service manager and complaining to him. He is going to want you to just go away, so it is in his best interest to make you happy so you go away.

Hey, thanks for all your input (and the rest of you guys, too). Good to know this is all normal and not a one-off.

I will try the S5! Now I'm excited to try it. I didn't realize there was an S5. For some reason I thought the S modes only went up to S4.

I shifted over there once and it showed up as S4, so I assumed that's where it topped out. Maybe I inadvertently bumped it down before I looked to see where it was.

My 2 biggest complaints in 30k miles of driving my truck are the throttle mapping and the double OD tranny. Both are dumb. If I use S5 and no CC, my truck will not downshift past 5th gear (my frequently travelled route has no huge steep hills). The difference between S5 and S6 is only about 3-500 RPM at highway speeds so it really doesn't effect your MPG. It also makes for a far more "normal" drive.

Try S6, it works better than D mode anyways. Mine has always started in S4 as well.

    It's like 700 pages lol.

640 to be exact. I have mine sitting next to my computer. I should probably put it back in the truck.

Once your in "S" you push the stick up or down to choose where you want to be. I think it always starts at S4.

I was just going to ask you about MPG in S5 on the highway. I'll have to give it a try too
