I still like the broncos but I lost my love for football. Too many commercials and stoppage of play. The games last just as long if not longer than baseball. I can watch an F1 race, a hockey game, a soccer game, a rugby game, a basketball game etc in 1.5 hours. It's like 3 hours for football. Then when it started turning political it was the last straw for me.

There is some awesome camping not far from camp hale. Cr703 Homestakes road off of hwy 24 about 4 miles north of camp hale. There are some great sites a few miles down 703.

I did the Hurtz ditch loop before McAllister. The section between the ditch and the other more maintained road was pretty fun. Endless camping options and it ends right across from Camp Hale. Way less traffic than the Homestake road too.

I attempted that one back in may. I chickened out, I was by myself and the between section was a quagmire. The north side does have some great campsites.

I have a cabin off of hr703 just far enough back that I dont hear most of the traffic. But I have a prerunner so I dont hit the hard trails. Once I get the solid swap done it's a different story

Is anyone available to run Black Bear with me into Telluride this Friday morning, Sept 14 and then Imogene towards Ouray after lunch?

I am in Flagstaff Wednesday night. Thursday morning I am driving to Silverton via Ophir pass. Then staying in Silverton overnight so I can start Black Bear around 8:00 am.

Friday evening I plan to take on the chilly air overnight at the Amphitheater Campground before heading home Saturday.

Sounds like there’s a few of us that want to camp out Saturday night. I probably won’t head out till 4 or 5pm. Coop thinks we might even be able to do a fire!

Seems like they lifted the fire restrictions in that area

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/whiteriver/alerts-notices/?aid=48848

Really hoping I can make it. Some stuff came up but I'm confident I'll be making it. Will know for suresies tomorrow evening.

Probably going to plan to head out to that area early Saturday and do whatever for the day, camp Saturday night, and then meet up for the trails Sunday morning.

Ophir pass is pretty awsome. It seemed like I was stopping every 1000 feet or so to take a picture. I started in Ophir and drove towards Silverton. The 4.5 mile trail took 2 hours cause I took my time. Loose rock west of the pass and forest service like road east of the pass. Easy trail, incredibly scenic with “scare your passenger” dropoffs.
Here are six of the many photos taken.

    B9CFD64A-93D5-41E5-BF16-C5B446C0C4A8.jpg B85473C7-6749-4CE4-8AE9-F471661C9AF2.jpg F968130E-CEBA-4FE1-B0FF-DBC7108B7C57.jpg 94D0D77C-C272-44AB-988C-75473C5137B2.jpg F608FE1D-7E51-4501-AD2A-FD356ED76BF9.jpg F6D3835F-C28B-4B55-97EC-8EC35062EDD9.jpg

The last photo is off of Hwy 550. Leaves are just starting to change. I am two weeks early according to Betty at the Alma House in Silverton, where I am staying for the night.

Shoot. I just realized I posted in the wrong thread. Arrrgh!

    That trail is absolutely breathtaking!

I’m sure some folks have heard me say this before, but Ophir has a special place in my heart. That trail is the one that sealed the deal for me on moving to Colorado, buying the taco, and getting into off-roading.

They lifted the fire restrictions up here a while ago. We get a little bit of rain every couple of days at the least.
I'm going to try to find the campsite I pictured earlier, I can't remember exactly where it is. I'm sure it's down 703 somewhere.
