Nice! I've been tooling around with Tenkara for a couple seasons now. Still lots to learn and I'd like to incorporate some fly fishing on bigger water (regionally speaking of course).

I'm hoping to get back out that way some time in the near future. My sister lives in Hailey. Lots of reasons to visit that area of the country, regardless of the season.

    Try these.

My primary fishing style is tenkara. Have been at it for about 3+ years now.
Love the simplicity and lightness of it. I am finding that I am getting back into hiking to find remote fishing spots. Really had a fun summer of exploring.

Although I do have plans to learn to fly fish, I too love the simplicity of tenkara fishing.

I did a few summer internships with TU, USFS, and GA DNR on a Back the Brookie program. I was amazed by the size of some of the natives we’d find in tiny tributaries. Most of the areas we worked in were only suited for small rod/tenkara style.

I would imagine it would work great for what I was doing. I much prefer the feel and control of a fly rod/reel over traditional spinning or bait casting gear.

Same here. I guess if you’re looking for a perfect drift, the pin seems to be able to do that repeatedly, without all the issues. I just don’t have the time to learn right now, nor the funds to get completely set up for it.

I would like to find some streams in the North GA area that have brookies. They have been on my trout bucket list.

Getting off the beaten path and tracking up tributaries is where I’ve had the best luck finding them. Lots of little unmapped fingers off the tallulah river near Tate city in Clayton, and Sarah’s creek off warwoman rd (home town shout out).

The browns and rainbows have really dominated the populations up there so from what I’ve seen you’ve got to earn it to find the Brookies.

@dwalden2 could probably provide better insight than me as he’s much more in the know.

Yea, the small mountain streams are your best bet. When spring rolls back around and they start stocking, they’ll stock the Toccoa with Brookies for a while. But, if you’re wanting the wild, bright, pretty brookies, better get to blue lining.

Couple examples of a stocked brookie from earlier this year:

Today I won a $150 voucher for Allen Fly Fishing. How should I spend it?

I don't really need anything, haha. I have been watching out for the right vintage bamboo rod for fishing small streams. Other than that, I don't know. The Trout II reel and Heritage rod look nice.

That's an idea but Allen does not manufacture any Tenkara rods. I think I am going to go with the Heritage 7'6" 3wt. I will be able to get it at a quarter of the normal price.

I have that Orvis reel in a 5 weight as a back-up, nice reel that works well, I just have too many reels haha.

I have a few Sage rods too but not that specific model, I like their rods quite a bit.
