Mine also, both OEM second was a replacement under warranty. By the time needed a 3rd less than a year after that no way I would have replaced it with a Toyota OEM. Got an Interstate, mainly because they had a shop next door to where the second one died LOL. But it is still kicking the engine over without a hiccup even in the teens and twenties below zero.

The heat here eats 'em up. 3 years is about standard. Tires in 5 or 6. I replaced a bunch of trailer tires at work when I first started here and have already started on another go-'round. This is my 5th year working in Yuma. On my personal vehicles, every one of them has had batteries and or tires except the wife's new truck. Getting ready to do Jeep tires. Did both on the Harley and the '64.

Extreme heat and extreme cold is hell on batteries. When I first moved here one of the clubs had purchased battery operated wireless voice activated callers for the trap field. Worked great during the summer. Then when it got cold that fall\winter they wouldn't last more than a couple of squads. I remember helping an older gentleman pack up the callers and putting wired ones back on the field in the snow and he muttered to me less than 10% of the shit made in the world is made to work here. The other 90% is where the rest of the world lives. That goes for heat too, I think he was pretty accurate...

At least tires last longer here due to winter. Slipping and skidding on ice and hard packed snow that might as well be ice. And the plows give up and run groves in it. Damn there has to be a happy medium. Some where.

Stationed in San Diego, Alameda, and Washington State from 77 to 83. I understand totally. One reason I keep coming back to this thread on TW is many of us served our country. Many of us are retired military either active duty or reserve. At the time to defeat Socialism and Communism. And we won.

Yet you now have to be careful what you say or the KGB will ban you. Makes me sad. One of Tom Clancy's movies Jack Ryan said that he served so that the other guy didn't have to. And he respected his opinion to disagree. But unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around in real life.

Working 16 hour days plus but took advantage of the Program Afloat Collage Experience, PACE. Finished my degree that way. Actually a couple of them. They would on board professors that were retired military for the most part. Had an Army Colonel that taught psychology and he explained the whole homosexual being normal was declared when DSMIIIR was being rewritten in Chicago to include sleep disorders. The DSM is used by insurance companies to reimburse for financial funds for medical treatment. Originally IIIR was for sleep disorders. And many of the psychiatrist found themselves in a gay bar that weekend. So they slipped in homosexuality as "normal" no longer a deviant behavior. He said Hollywood would pick up on it and make it a social reality. We thought he was nuts at the time....

As he was explaining this to us it was on the main deck of a tin can, USS Robinson DDG-12. He was behind a podium near the ASROC launchers between the stacks. And we were doing AAW exercises. We were off the coast of the Philippine Islands and he was there when the Japanese invaded. Had to evacuate and he was one of the lucky ones that escaped with MacArthur . Many of his friends made the Bataan death march and of course didn't make it.

When the FA-18 Hornet shot the stacks he broke the sound barrier. Sound wave knocked over the podium, instructor, and us sitting on the non skid fly boy wasn't more than 20 feet off the deck. He picked himself up and brushed himself off as well as he could and we all grabbed his papers and handed them to him. He said God Damn it, I shall return.

That statement is lost on so many that it makes me sad. And he was the best college professor that I have ever had.

Ah, the Cold War. It's kinda funny to me that many people didn't understand that there really was "opposition" and was not just political or spy stuff. It became real to me when I got stationed in Germany. Many people now don't know or remember when there was an east and a west. I still remember very vividly looking across the border at 2 East German soldiers looking back at me...pretty chilling to think about and all the firepower on both sides to go with it.

There are pictures of me in Russia. What ever is left of Russian archives. Drove them nuts that we could refuel and take on arms while underway and moving. They had to sit still in the ocean to do that and were literally a sitting duck. No vector analysis needed. So the Russian Bears would fly over us with cameras looking like a porcupine taking pictures of us. The Carriers would send up all the Hornets on board to fly inches away from the Bears so they couldn't shoot film. It was a game that went on for years. The Chinese didn't play the game well and resulted in a crash...

I had "the touch" and was always stuck on throttles when doing an under way replenishment. One time I had a relief that took over and I got to go topside during the unrep to watch, trained a pretty good kid to replace me. One time anyhow. When the Bear approached with all the FA-18 Hornets pancaking it the Captain announced over the 1MC now give the Bear the Hawaiian Salute

Which is the middle finger only took a couple of seconds to figure that out LOL. It came from the USS Pueblo and the sailors that were captured by North Korea.

I am topside flying that bird in full view during my one and only time got to get off throttles. Even as Engineering Officer of the Watch.

Ahh the Cold War where whoever served in the Military during that time , All we got for recognition is a Certificate and Ribbon and a pin . The ribbon and pin are not recognized as a true military award

I think all Veterans of the Cold War got the Cold shoulder treatment and was treated unfairly !!!!!

Also I felt very proud to serve under President Reagan . One thing I remember during my time in the Military during the Cold War was wearing NBC Suits 4x's per month for a day
