I changed every 3k with mobi1 synthetic for 114,000 miles, but then went to every 5k. Oil changes are cheap, easy and fun.

What a waste of money, you could have put all that savings in a retirement account over the years

Interesting. How many miles on your machine? I buy the 10k Mobile 1, but still do it every 5

That's like $668 difference over the 114,000mi lifespan.

I’m going to start doing a full +12 quart tranny flush every year. That’s about 15,000 miles for me. About $80 worth of fluid (valvoline MaxLife).

I think the idea of inventing lubricants that work twice as long is so we are not dumping into the earth more pollutants than necessary? If Dino oil did the job for 5,000 miles and we were overly cautious, then we changed at 3,000 miles. Why would you buy synthetic, good for 12,000 miles, and still change it at 3,000 or 6,000 even? Great that you can afford to, but the other goal was environmental concerns. I know you all recycle your old oil! Just wondering why you are not accepting the new tech. We do love our Tacomas, right?

Do you have oil catch can? I've always wanted to see the oil analysis on that "milk" comes out of the catch can compared to the used oil.

Having issues with your transmission? Also, I would recommend getting the scanguage as it will give you tranny fluid temps and help aid you in the process. I had to do it once via the shifter method... not really fun.

I keep hearing good things about the super tech!
I’m partial to Mobil 1 in my taco though. Tried and true. In my land cruiser I’ve been running rotella 5-40 and if they made it in a lighter weight, I’d make the switch.

Mobil 1 every 5000 miles in my 06 Tacoma (M1 5W-30) and 06 Rubicon (M1 10W-30 HM). But I live down a dirt road. If I did not then I would do 7,500 miles. People can do as they wish but 3000 mile change intervals are a waste of time, money and resources.

I use Mobil1 synthetic, change oil every 6000 miles. Always use OEM oil filters, I replace the oil filter at 3000 miles between oil changes. :)

A little of this and a little of that.
Yep. 5K oil changes with OEM oil filters. Mobil 1 0W-20. I wish the 4 cyl. oil change was as easy as the 4.0 6 cyl. oil change. No more difficult than the 3.4L than on my old ‘98.

The accumulated catch can oil is going to be heavily saturated with water, fuel, and particulate because it's been vaporized and subsequently condensed within the crank case / EGR system.

While its possible to see the same in the oil sump, it'll be of trivial amount due to volume differential.

Unless there is something very very wrong.
