I wasn't aware of the status of the situation with his wife. It seemed weird but it does seem as we are lead to believe that Hoffman's wife was in the wrong. But if she made that all up, for real (which was the rumor) then that is ridiculous lol. On-ice, I'm excited to see him with SJ.

The rumors that she made it all up come from how the court case was handled. Well, it's the lack of a court case. The order that the Karlssons were able to get on Hoffmans wife is similar to a restraining order. You don't need complete proof for a restraining order, you simply need a reasonable suspicion that you are threatened or a judge who is willing to grant an order for less for a minimal restraining order. There is little to no burden of proof. Originally, from memory here so feel free to use the google fu to look up the exact details, the Karlssons wanted a full restraining order that would of barred Hoffmans fiance from the Arena and twitter (they did not get either of those) and their lawyers filed that they were assembling evidence to pursue some sort of harassment charges. Nothing came of that. Given nothing came of it with the huge legal team the Karlssons assembled it would make sense that they were never able to find any hard evidence that Hoffmans wife was the twitter poster harassing Karlssons wife. This is the story that's widely available on the web, though of course most of the speculation died when Hoffman was traded and the issue became a mute point to the Canadian media.

Back to maybe the bigger picture, a couple of weeks ago on Leafs lunch the question was asked to a former GM what they thought would happen with Karlsson. Literally the first point after saying the Sens would trade him, was that whoever took Karlsson would pay less than half his real value (probably accurate) and that the leadership group in the dressing room would need to be consulted in order to make sure that their wives could handle Karlssons wife. That's pretty damning and given the return for Karlsson I believe the Sharks are taking the risk based on their local market. They can bury Karlssons wife in the local market and, given how small hockey still is to the average person in the area, the Sharks can reasonably assume that the story in Ottawa won't cause any problems publicly with her. If she does become a problem they can offload Karlsson for what they paid for him at worst at the trade deadline to another Western Conference team.

Babcock also mentioned he intentionally did give any of the A's to Nylander (who is still not signed, wants 8 million over 8 years because of the damn Draisaitl deal), Matthews, or Marner because they form their own young developing leadership group and naming one would ruin that.

Makes sense I suppose. I'd rather it be this than Tavares with the 'C'. Basically because I don't know how Matthews could ever get the 'C' if JT gets it now (and the term of his contract). I guess I envisioned a Maple Leafs team with Matthews with the 'C' and Marner being his 'A'. But I can appreciate waiting on them a bit.

Didn't fact check this myself but I just read when Heatley was traded from OTT to SJ the first time he played his old team was Dec. 1st.
When Alfredson went from OTT to DET the first time he played his old team was Dec. 1st.
And the Sharks will play the Sens on..... Dec. 1st.
