Purchased a Dashcam and I would like to hardwire it near or above the rear view mirror; can anyone advise if there is an electrical feed (prefer not to run wires to fuse box), I can use? It is equipped with rear view camera.

    Many thanks.

if you dont tap the fuse panel by the knee you gotta go directly to the battery or tap into the cig lighter wire

Thanks. I take it that there isn’t a good power at the rear view mirror.

You shouldn’t have any issues hiding the wire if you’re running it from the fuse panel or cigarette lighter

FYI if you have a powered mirror, there is a switched 12v you can tap into right above the headliner center console. Thats how i did it.

Even if you don't have a power/homelink mirror, most trucks were wired for one. You can check for the wires by removing your overhead console. They should be at the front towards your windshield. There's usually at least a constant +12v, switched +12v and ground. Should be all you need. Fuse the +12v's to be safe.

If i remember correctly its the green wire in the plug up there for the mirror that is a switched on ignition.

I hard wired my cam up to the lights where the temperature is theres two 12 volt power sources in there both come on with key . But one goes off when you put your lights on. I bought one of those cigarette sockets and tucked all the wires in the headlinerEFBDB119-E7EB-4787-9734-91261001F1ED.jpg

Good though, I don’t have the fancy mirror BUT, perhaps it is pre wired! Need to investigate

SUUUUPER easy to pop the sunglasses holder / dome light out of the headliner, Literally one screw.

My dash cam i bought came with a 12v to USB (5v) cigarette adapter. I pulled that out of the case, unsoldered the USB connections, directly soldered a cut to length usb cable to the 5v side an soldered two leads for 12v and ground. Used 2 T taps to grab a ground and a switched 12v up above the dome light area and called it good.

How visible is that from outside the truck? Do you have a backward facing camera also?

@nd4spdbh sorry to bump the old thread but do you have any instructions on how to do this ? i have a 2008 and am wondering if it's pre wired up by the temp/compass gauge ? interested in feasibility for wiring in like a dash cam. i've heard the newer models had a plug in the power mirror

How does it get removed ? Don’t wanna somehow mess up the circuitry or wiring of the temp gauge

*****EDIT—ah just watched a YouTube. Lemme go out to the truck real quick. Shouldn’t take long. Pics to come.
