ordered a 2019 TRDOR with leather. Saw someone post photos of excessive seat wear on side bolsters. I take good care of my leather on other cars but want to be sure I’m not making a mistake.

I’m on 6k with my 18... they look great, are wearing better and are much easier to clean than my cloth seats from my previous tacoma.

Like you, I went from a 2nd gen. Ordered a 3rd gen with leather. When it arrived, I didn't fit. Sunroof made it way too low for a 6'1 person. So frustrating to wait all that time, then have to start the entire process over again. There was zero sunroof trucks to sit in until mine arrived. Just figured I'd mention that.

I've got 18,000 on mine so far. Leather is holding up great.

Leather is no different than any other vehicle, foreign or domestic. Just keep it supple with conditioner and will last long enough for your great great grandchildren to enjoy......

I like them better than the cloth in my 2nd gen. Look like new, but only about 3500 miles so far.

With modern "leather" automotive seats I think it is actually a mistake to use traditional leather conditioners, they can't penetrate the surface of this kind of treated leather, and they don't help the non-leather parts, so they sit on the surface of the seat, collect dirt and dust, and turn into kind of a conditioner and dirt slurry that actually causes wear. Just keep them clean with an automotive leather seat cleaner.

27k miles on my 2017 and the leather is holding up fine. There are a couple lines in the drivers seat where I slide out, but nothing out of the ordinary. Otherwise looks like it did the day I brought it home.

After wiping the interior down, I snapped a few photos of the drivers seat.

I had a '16 tacoma TRD-OR w/ the cloth. Totalled the truck at 18k miles and that driver seat was definitely showing wear on the lower side bolster. Got an '18 TRD-OR w/ the leather and it's holding up much better, but there's only about 3k miles on it. The main thing is, don't slide down over the seat (use your side steps if you have them). I'm not the tallest guy (5'9"), so getting out of the truck I tend to slide down out of the seat even though I had side steps that I could have used.

I don't see how this is possible short of having your seat at a 30 degree decline. I mean clearly it works for you if you say so, but I am 6'2" and with the seat in what I consider a normal driving position, I have maaaaaybe 1 inch of clearance without a sunroof. I mean if I purposefully bounce around for ass adjustment I can brush the liner with my head.

What he's not telling you is that he's using his knees to drive lol. I'm with you. No way it's comfortable to cram 6'7 into a sunroof truck.

I get in after work everyday with pants that, more often than not, have some dirt ground into them from working in excavations. Still looks new. I do try to keep them clean, and treat them regularly with either leather conditioner, or 303 protectant. I use 303 the most, as it’s easiest to work with, and I’m not sure how genuine automotive “leather” seats really are.
