The people who buy these trucks don't "settle"...they get what they want. If you consider buying one model over the other "settling", then you are looking at the wrong line of trucks to begin with and in the end, who gives a shit so long as you have fun with your purchase?

This, I had an old 4x4 without a locker that would really require a little momentum to go up a trail.. My OR just creeps up it when I engage the locker... without it struggles, but manages with ATRAC/MTS

    What a fun truck!
I bought the TRD Sport in October '16 4x4 with premium tech DCLB. I drove up the mountains at night during a heavy snow. The sport was amazing! The tech in this thing made it feel like I was on standard pavement. I have taken it off roading a couple times and it is plenty capable. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

Besides, ask yourself if you have the money to buy a brand new truck then beat the sh** out of it on hardcore off-road trails. If this is going to be your daily driver, get the sport.

Also, if you are super particular about what you want, do what I did and go to your local dealer and put in an order. Toyota will custom make whatever you want and send it to the dealership of your choice. You just have to be patient.

Snow picture is TRD Sport 4x4 straight from the dealership to give you a perspective on how much snow this thing crushed through.

Don't buy the new Sport. Been there done that. It bounces really a lot on the highway with any big bump. My old 2013 TRD Sport had Bilsteins and was stiff. Get the OR

Thought hadn’t crossed my mind. I bought a truck because as a home owner I needed a reliable truck. Thought of off-roading wasn’t on my mind when making the purchase.

Has anyone on here bought and Off-Road and then later said...Geesh I wish/should have bought a SPORT? Fair question.... At the end of the day, if the color is that important whether it be an SR5, Sport, OR, Limited, or PRO it may matter more you got the truck in the color you wanted, getting to enjoy looking at it every day. I MUCH prefer the ride in the OR, hardcore capable and yet smooooth on the hardtop...rides better than almost every truck out there.

Its a bit more bumpy but maintains composure far better on pavement... which is the point. I would say you overpaid for your pro, but I'm guessing you would disagree with that. To each their own.

Fair enough. I cant speak to that, I'd imagine no. BUT I imagine the same for sport owners. I dont wish I had a OR at all...

i really dont understand this sport bashing, thread after thread. Do all you OR owners have a insecurity complex or what!? o_O

I would think with the right tires, the sport would be capable of 99% of everything the OR is capable of. It would be a rare occasion that the sport couldn't get you out of a jam that the OR could (asuming you're not rock crawling every weekend).

I've used my SR5's on off road, forest service roads, farm fields, hauling, towing, hunting, minimum maintenance roads, trailing boats... I've never had a problem.

True, an SR5 or Sport can be mostly be turned into a OR with Bilsteins, wheels, tires, skid plate...etc. Just no Crawl Control will take place.

In fact, I'd have to TRY to get myself into a situation my SR5 couldn't get me out of. Again, assuming you're not crawling. And even then, the Sport would be very capable with the right tires. Just my opinion. But I wouldn't get a sport if I really wanted an OR.

I've played around with crawl control. To be honest, I don't see myself using it much, if at all. I go off road, but I don't crawl much. And when/if I do crawl, regular 4wd has served my fine.

For the money, wait until you find exactly what you want. Took me two years. Ended up flying from kc, Missouri to Detroit, Michigan. 13 hour drive home and got exactly what I wanted. Totally worth it.

I think it probably depends on the type of pavement you are driving on, we have alot of corners where the pavement is washboard and broken and the Sport skipped and slid over that making it not feel very composed. I would imagine on smooth roads it probably feels much better.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. No offense
