Haha did you go to that shop off of Claremont Mesa Blvd? I had the same experience there. Except I gained zero knowledge from them. Those guys were so annoyed I was there.

I think I might just have to have @WileECoyote help me build a comms system for my truck

Yup, that’s the one. Pretty much how it was for me. I just got slightly annoyed and went back to be a little more assertive with my questions. That was the sole reason I walked away with any info.

Am I missing something or what is the point of having a "shop"? Strictly so the "all knowledgeable" can gather and swap tales of harrowing experiences while operating a HAM radio?

I went with one from @JLee. Ordered Tuesday, at my door friday, powdercoated. I'm about to install it right now, It's definitely beef. These trucks are already heavy, whats a little more thickness for protection. Probably adds like 5-10lbs tops.

Bamf stuff is literally bullet proof but I'm running Mobtown. The gussets are really nice and do save weight vs bamfs 1/4in. I have their relocated transfercase skid as well. Its nice but the ifs hangs a little low to allow a diff drop. SOS has skids as well and I have a few buddies runing them. They have the highest clearance vs mobtown. Joe at mobtown is a good dude though. I've been to their shop when I was stationed out in Maryland and he was really cool. He let me go through his recycle bin which I used all that steel to build my bedrack lol. Either way its not going to be cheap but I like Mobtowns skids.

That’s because since you used our material it’s technically partially ours. I want royalties.

Bamf isn't bulletproof. But they're as close as it currently comes. Mine are dented as well as the cross member cracked at the welds.
3/16 isn't suitable for serious rock crawling. On Dusy while I was waiting for people to catch up to me, I stopped and started walking back up the trail and found @Mike likes Tacos hammering out his skid on the side of the trail while the others were changing out a CV.

Yeah I was beating it with a rock cause I forgot the hammer... I'll be getting BAMF skids soon cause the pelfrey has failed a couple times already.

    Thanks!

Is that crack on a BAMF skid? Looks like there will always be a weak point.

I’m just tying to justify the weight/strength balance of the equation. I don’t do hardcore rock trails but I do tend to be persuaded otherwise.

Not 3/16, not 1/4, not 5/16 but 3/8th is what the skid for my truck is made of. I don’t mind the weight as it helps my lower center of gravity. I’d rather find ways to save weight on top, front or rear of my build.

That is also a weight bearing support for the transfer case and does not have nearly as much service area. That’s still thick as shit though.

You bring up a good point of lower center of gravity though.

Are you or anyone from @Mobtown Offroad going to be at SEMA this year? I know you’re building parts for a truck.
