I just gotta remind myself to take it easy haha. Going to be a bad trip if I get stuck with the gf lol. With my old long travel 2wd tundra I got stuck two times haha with no locker. I'm hoping the locker and lsd helps.

Yep that's true, plus it helps if you don't want to screw things up if you don't make it.

It does always help if you have someone with you that has 4wd.

Speed and carefull line pickings... As mentioned previously, I drove a family station wagon on a sandy track and up a rocky desert hill road and we did well. I dont use or need 4WD that often, and I drive offroad a lot.

Yes sir, unless it states otherwise. By that I mean there are a few areas that clearly say “no overnight camping”. Also you are also supposed to be at least 200 feet from the meadow. Otherwise you are good.

Seen more people sold on "needing 4x4" if they plan to go "off-road" once in a decade. Sales guys make a killing on suckers, but I guess that's just like anything else...

I remember when overlanding was done with Econoline vans with bubble camper tops and shag carpets in dressed up interiors, and boxy Westfalia vans with pop up tents and cute little play kitchens. Now its pickups with slide out drawers and lots of iron front and back, but we’ve kept the popup tents. What’s next?

Behold, I present to you the Malloverlander!

The Malloverlander*, a shopping adventure vehicle with excellent mileage, plenty of storage and comfort! :bananadance:

Soft ground with 2wd is a skill in itself, gotta know how to handle it with throttle control.

Death Valley could be another great spot but I wouldn’t go alone.

Anza Borrego is cool. If you want more of a mountain feel with great views, check out Idyllwild (San Jacinto Mountains). There is a cool fire road (Bee Canyon) that is 2wd friendly and some yellow post (primative) camping areas. Great place if you live in SoCal.

Wasn't there a fire in Idyllwild just months ago? That's what happened to Holy Jim.

Yes, there was a big fire up there but fortunately most of the good trails were left unscathed.
