Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

Had this for about 2k miles now. Had to fight the lady on the phone at the dealer, then the manager at the dealer. But I came with my tsb codes prepared and told them to just do it. It is a brand new truck, I love it. It holds up hills now until around 4k rpm when before it shifted at 2k no matter what and left me stranded driving/towing and passing.

Dealer said some 2018's come with this flash, but mine was an early one and didn't. I can't recommend this enough, I only use ECT mode now when towing, and I used to have to use it every time I got in the truck.

 

Got this flash done today....Big difference. Very happy with it. On the other hand I went there because my A/C blower motor quit working. Was told it is a recall. Part ordered. Was 98 degrees here today.

 

I am confused. Should I specifically ask for TSB 62 or 58?
My main concern is the weird downshifting and crap on the highways with the slightest hill.

 

Ask for which one matches your issue. They are the same in the end.

 

are they the same though, i don't seem to get that confirmation? if i get either one will they be identical in shift points and changing the transmission?
overall i am not that bothered by it, but if this is something that improves my experience then why not.
but i don't understand why there are two TSBs. why not just have one update that covers both conditions.

 

They are the same, both result in the same calibration ID#'s. There are 2 TSB's because there were 2 seperate issues.

 

I'd like one dollar for every time this has been explained in this thread. I'm down to under a fifth of Woodford Reserve, and the shit is getting expensive. I'll take cash or credit.

 

It is confusing to be fair. And the last thing you want to do is fight your local dealer only to possibly end up with the wrong update lol. But yeah, it's a well beaten horse at this point.

 

The other last thing you wanna do is read 92 pages of this thread.

 

I think this will be most people's eventual experience. The TSB resolved the issue it claims to but no other changes to the shifting are implemented. People like the way truck drives right after the TSB is done because their AI has been reset but then eventually things go back to the way they were. As mentioned, people can get that just flashed feeling anytime by driving in S mode.

I routinely get +24mpg per tank and am happy enough with how the truck drives to pass on this TSB, at least for now.

 

You have a 4wd? I cannot imagine how you guys are getting these mpg numbers. I haven't surpassed 19mpg yet.

 

All my gears work great after 2k miles. My theory is that people drive like poptarts and the truck adjusts to it, then they complain the truck learned their style. I ride up hills, tow up hills, cruise all over every type of road from off-road to highway, and it's been great. If it does do an upshift I don't like, you just touch the gas and it puts it right back down a gear and stays. That's my experience at least.

Haven't broken 17mpg. The people getting in the 20's, then complaining about lacking power...the story is in their MPG.

I avg 23.3 mpg per tank. Never complained about power at all. When needed, it's there. This transmission though, currently at dealership now, again, 8th time since March for it. Don't know how much more I can handle it. Just flashed ecu 3 days ago. Fixed 1 of 4 issues. No more gear searching on highway, but 40-50mph hitches harder now, clunking when stopping, and vibration when taking off. About to fight for a Manual trade in. Can't take it anymore.

 

How many tsb’s are out for this stumble? I think I’ve seen 3 different ones and I plan on going to the dealer today.

Wow, sorry to hear that, I would be pretty frustrated at this point myself if I were you. I'm really surprised the results of the flash aren't more across the board.

 

Yea, gonna contact Toyota, setup a claim and see what they'll do. Really hoping I don't need to go the lemon law route.

 

A bit of a drive for you but San Francisco City Toyota did mine yesterday without issue. Driving to Tahoe today, see if it’s actually better.

 

I can tell you what they'll do... after multiple trips to the dealer, they'll drag the conversation out for 6 weeks and then tell you your truck is normal and driving as intended.
