    So my door issue...tell me what you guys think..

    Backing up a lil while ago, didn’t realize my drivers door was open, and I pryed it backwards against a tree. Jammed the lock trying to close it. Got the lock fixed, but the door is out of alignment. It’s forward and out. So it bends the fender when opening, and to even get the door to latch I had to put a half inch of washers on the latch loop. When closed the door is not snug in all the way and kind of “rattles” on the latch.

    What do you think bent? The hinge? Or the door itself? Doesent really look like the door...but the hinges are so thick I find it hard to believe they bent. Then again, it is a 3.5ft lever

    Included passenger side for comparison ( and even that one isn’t too snug

    Open the door and look at where the hinges connect to the body. Maybe it just shifted the door forward on the hinges.

    Like the hinge slid forward on the body? I would not expect that would have that much play. I’ll look...but I don’t see how the hinges could shift forward with the bolts going all the way through them

    Update. I got the door closed tighter...just by shutting it harder. I don’t think it will flop around as much now...crossing fingers. I still have to get it to shift back into place though. It’s. Or not smooth by any means closing now

    Yeah there isn't much play, but there is some. That's where the body shop guys will go to adjust the clearences. It's more helpful to have a second hand to hold the door if you decide to try it. There is play on both ends of the hinge (where it connects to door and the body)

    Edit: you can use the paint line around the hinges to help with adjustment. When you move it you will see the primer underneath

    Ah yeah that would do it. If you support the door with a jack stand you could take one off at a time and try to put it in vise to bend them back

    Do you think the hinge bent or the body it’s bolted to? What are the chances I get enough leverage and a thick enough pry bar to bend that hinge? Seems unlikely

    Hinges are cheap enough, but make sure the metal it's bolted to isn't bent tho

    yeah i was going to say the body metal probably bent if anything. Take the door off and pound it flat. Real mount the door when you remount it. Pain to do alone. But best way is close it with the bolts loose on the hinge then move the door on the hinge side and tighten down.

    That’s what I’ll do. Take door off, beat hinge back into place while attached, loosen hinge bolts, get door in place, tighten.

    Had this happen on a jetta in high school. Wind caught the door. I didn’t even take the door off, just used a 4lb sledge and hammered it back toward the front.
