What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Are they really that easy to change? I remember on some cars we had to pull the hub out to change them the proper way. I watched a buddy in my high school days grind his spindle down on a Honda Civic so he could change it without pulling the hub.

 

Air hammer FTW! Then spin a nut on and hit it with the impact to reinstall.

 

Finally got around to pulling the door panel off and checking why my window goes up so slow. Well the panel was jamed in there pinching the glass. The window functions fine. I cleaned all the dust out and added some sound deadening. Also working on installing wires and new speakers. A lot of little things for sure.

 

Yup, hardest part was removing the stuck brake rotor haha

 

By no means do I condone all Dorman products... Hell I don't even use any others that I know of because they're usually so shitty. But their wheel studs for our trucks are just fine and the only thing from them I've ever seen printed with Made in USA, usually it's the most bottom dollar garbage part from Guangzhou or something.

 

Gorilla tape is some strong stuff. But I’m going to put mass loaded vinyl there. So I might have to screw it to the door. I don’t know yet. We’ll see.

 

That’s what I use. But I have some Ford ones. They are a little longer. The knurl is a tad smaller then the yota ones but they still sit snug.

 

What exactly was causing the window to slow down? When you say panel, what do you mean, like the actual door panel?

Mine seem to move slower now & are the motors are noisy. I figure the motors are just old & tired. I tried lubing the regulator but it made no difference.

 

Toyotas are easy to do studs on. Some cars are not

 

Yep Hondas are not, those were the most common when I worked at a shop. I never had to replace any on a Toyota yet.

 

I like cars with normal taper roller bearings in the front, you can usually replace the whole hub and bearing for the price of doing one or two studs

 

Well there's always that oil test thingamajig. I wouldn't even sweat anything til that's looked at. You might not even have an issue...

Can you by chance tell us what the application is? PO put some aluminum wheels on my truck and I don't believe there is sufficient thread engagement.

 

Kind of hard to explain. When I was trying to lift the panel out of the window part of the door. The section by where the mirror is was really tight. So I had to lift from the door lock side and pull the shit out of it to get it to come loose from the mirror side. I havent checked the door yet. but when I tested the window it works fine now.

 

Do you have the proper lug nuts? There are two types. The acorn style usually found on steel wheels and the other kind that is used on thicker wheels. Can't think of the correct term.

Ah I see. I was hoping it was something that may have been related to my issue but I think it's just my motors that are tired.

In your pic it looks like you didn't take off the cover for the side view mirror. It makes it a bit easier to take off & put back on the door panel with it off.
