Ok team, looking to get some 16x8 rims with 0 offset and got some questions. Can I 285 75 16 without CMC and 2" lift? Yes I searched and no clear answer. Also, if i had to, are all CMC's (plates from the big names), the same? Which wheel, offset, lift combo will allow for 33's and no CMC if anyone has done it?

It really comes down to driving habit also. I’ve noticed with a good alignment you can avoid chopping of the CMC for the most part with minor trimming (with 285).

Im not sure how you didnt find a clear answer, a thread like this one shows up several times a week.

16x8 with zero offset you will likely rub with anything larger than a 265/75/16 even with a CMC and no lift

Some people make it work with a lift, cmc, and uca - and a good alignment guy. This is where you probably need to do your own research because a 3” lift comes with a of additional considerations and costs. If you arent mechanically inclined, you can easily drop $3-5k for a good 3” lift. If youre mechanically incined, that price will be $1500-$2500. More for alpha lifts

These tires work on stock OR rims without spacers? How about 8" wide 0 offset wheels? Can anyone confirm? I do plan on wheeling this truck.

Ive worked on cars before but never lifted a truck. Seems pretty straight forward. Just looking at my options before I make the purchase.

Do a search for 255/85/16, there are a few REALLY big threads on it. Most people clear fine but some people report issues. Tire selection is a big part of it.

I have. Not feeling the spacer use on stock wheels though. Haven't heard of anyone doing them on aftermarket rims... I do like how they work on TRD Pro 16" rims but can't seem to find a set of those that costs less than aftermarket. I regret selling mine.

Keep looking. Stock trd Or rims work just fine without spacers.

There’s no clear answer because each truck and setup is different and no one has found the magical offset and backspacing.

Also people who claim they have no rubbing often come back several weeks later to report they do.

At the end of the day you need at least a 4.5” backspace, a CMC, and a minimum of +3 caster with some fender molding. If OP decides on a 285/55 he can probably get away without a CMC but will still need a good alignment. Good alignments can only be achieved with aftermarket UCA, by good I mean anything over +3 caster.

I guess my wording should have been “you should have found enough information about this topic”

I can tell you I ran 16x8 zero offset 265/75/16 and there were days I thought it would rub when stuffed because it was so close.

I went with 16x8 0offset with 285/75 and haven’t needed a cmc, not once has it rubbed the cab mount. Had to trim the fender liner and a tab from the front bumper but that’s all. I have at most 2” of lift. You can research until you’re blue in the face but it all comes down to a case by case basis.

For sure, but if rubbing is a concern just do the cmc and don’t look back. Also to add to my previous post, I have 3rd gen 5100’s up front on the 4th notch and 1.5” lift in the rear.

For sure. Does anyone know if CMC's really need to be filled in? Are the plates for reinforcing the area or just covering a cut to combat rust?
