:bananadead: I just rolled back into the garage again. I ain't getting under there until it is stone cold. The spot is tight, near the left, rear cat.

Either tomorrow or Sunday morning, depending on what the fam has planned.

Also, I need to check the size of my line wrench. Crossing my fingers there.

Hahaha! Totally. It is a bit of a beyotch to get to the top shield bolt, mainly getting it started again. The mod should only be removing the heat shield, twisting the mount bracket on the elbow, clamping off the reservoir at the master inlet, removing the accumulator, and working backward plus bleeding.

Bleeding will be interesting as I didn't find any nipples near the master, just one on the slave. Folks have said that it bleeds easy though.

Just in case, here's a video from the mod on a 2nd Gen with more slack in the lines and a person more brave and skilled than me at bending the lines:

I updated the OP to add the details.

It was a bit of a PITA.

I do have another idea. Gimme a bit of time.

Great mod. I hate the way most modern hydraulic clutch’s feel....or don’t feel is more accurate.

What is in the accumulator that is restricting the fluid flow?
On other non Tacoma vehicles I have been able to just remove the restriction.

I have not taken it completely apart, but I think it is a restriction and a ball / spring setup to damp out the feel.

Hmmm.. I've wondered if the accumulator could be altered to negate the damping effect without destroying it.

Yeah it is. When I replaced the shield with the insulated one for the tranny whine issue, I could not get that bolt started again without removing the two bolts for
    the cat. converter support bracket.

Edit: I saw you added that to your original post. Might be worth having someone tack weld that new part to a plate with holes in it, so the plate could be mounted with the original bolts.

Not that I can tell. It is a solid part with a large plug pressed it. Also, when bolted to the backing plate, it creates a seal. Really weird design.

The shield is easy to mess with once the cat support is out. The top two bolts there are tight, but better than the shield bolt. You also need the clearance for the line wrench.

The original backing plated is bolted to the transmission. Only the elbow is safety wired. A tack weld there might be nice.

Awesome. I'm assuming this fixed that tiny delay when releasing the clutch pedal.

Thanks for doing a write up on this I had ment to but just never got around to it with my work schedule. I have been running this mod for close to a year now with no adverse effects. Makes the clutch feel and react much better.

I pulled the front drive shaft when I did mine to give more room to work.

Now you see why I did mine the way we talked about. This was something that I saw when I did mine. It is the reason I cut the bracket off of the new part and welded it on in a different location to make it easier to install.

Yes. The clutch feels normal now without delay. A lot of messing around but very worth it.

My pleasure! I appreciate that you confirmed that it will work. Pulling down on the upper line and coaxing the line to the slave to make up the distance and alignment was worrying. Like you are saying, I feel it will be fine. I am wondering if a part could be machined to function as an elbow but be the size of the accumulator with one matching mounting hole? What do you think @7r41lbr34k3r ? My accumulator can be used as a pattern?

Yes. A welder would have been handy. I bent and twisted the bracket three different ways, besides cutting it off to fit, and repositioning it a couple of times on the backing plate.

Can you post up some pics of The accumulator? Trying to visualize how it seals to the bracket and if it could be disassembled.

Yes a elbow made to fit the bracket and be a direct bolt in replacement would be nice!

so many questions about the accumulator. Like how does it work and what was the intention of the engineers when they added this in. I know the gist of what it does, but it looks like a burst disc/reed valve, and even though the clutch had initially felt weird, I’ve gotten used to it, but I never got the why part. There were speculations about reduced wear to friction faces, or pedal feel...

I mostly read that it is for reducing shock loads and to allow smoother clutch engagement for inexperienced drivers.
