    Is yours one of the Marlin Crawler replacements? There was no way mine would have fit successfully with the gasket in there. Maybe my hands are just too dainty lol, but I gave it all my might and couldn’t get it.

    Oh well, luckily I shouldn’t have to do this again :fingerscrossed:

    No, mine was OEM, I had read of others having a problem with the Marlin install also so I decided OEM

    If I remember I googled the part and I saw a lot of others that bought the marlin having an issue of not being able to get the lock ring to lock. So I decided to just go with the Toyota part. I figured if this part lasted 500,000 miles I may as well stay with the Toyota part

    Lol, true. Not really sure how/why mine was so trashed at 164k miles, but even that I guess is a decent amount of miles.

    If $20 is all it takes every 150k miles to keep it shifting well than I won’t complain. Every additional mile will be a bonus! :thumbsup:

    It would have taken me 10 minutes to do this repair but the small rubber boot that snaps over the top
    of the transmission housing ripped as I tried to get it off, so I had to chase down a new rubber boot And of course nothing was in stock at the Toyota dealers

    For sure. You’re right, if I had to do it again it wouldn’t take more than but a few minutes.

    Sucks about the rubber boot :/ hopefully that wasn’t too big a pain in the ass to procure

    Was not a big deal, just had to wait 3 days for the part but for those that are doing this repair it might be wise to order a new boot and have it on hand. These tacomas are all getting older (20 years)and the rubber stuff is failing from age.

    didn’t catch this until after chewing up my thumbs! went in like a charm after i removed the spacer. Shifting is way tighter now, i was so used to the slop it feels weird!

    One thing I noticed about the OEM rubber seat is that it's much quieter than the Marlin Crawler plastic seat. I get a much louder vibration/rattle from the stick with the Marlin one, but it sure functions nice so I'm keeping it in.

    Loaned my grease gun out and am in the middle of replacing this. Can I just use caliper grease instead? Or should I bike to the store and get white grease or something?
    I've also got the pre lube for the full bushing kit from energy suspension.
    This is what they have to say about their prepubescent grease:
    "If you are unable to use our Formula 5 Prelube, we suggest using a synthetic, water resistant marine-grade grease for optimum lubrication and retention."

    Strange, my pieces looked minimally worn yet when I drove it after, I'm able to find gears with the greatest of ease. Pretty legit repair. The stick still has some play in it, but I'd say it was reduced by half. Woulda taken 20 minutes tops if I hadn't needed to get that grease...

    a dropped one and a high one
    Just replaced my seat on my 4wd tacoma.... I was having issues getting into gear, this made a slight improvement but i'm still struggling and not much has changed, 1st is super diffcult to get into, as well as 2nd and reverse, truck wont go into gear when cold at all. Shifts fine when truck is off. Next step is Redline MT90, what do you guys think?

    Night and day difference afterwards.
    I replaced mine without difficulties, which from reading this thread surprises me.

    Ouch that sucks..

    My best guess would be syncro [mesh/gear/insert correct jargon here] in between the gears in the actual transmission. The symptoms my truck had were that the stick could kind of 'float' between first and third, like it didn't have clear paths for the shifter to move through.

    I know it doesn't solve the root problem, but does double clutching help at all?
