My truck has only 11,000 miles on it. It's possible that the screws might be loose. I'll check them tonight.

Also, from memory, mine appears to be similar to the one pictured except I thought it did have one screw on each side of the mechanism. I'll have to look again.

I'm not looking to "cry wolf" here. I saw what looked like a crappy piece of work & reported what I saw.

ok here's what you do: start a poll thread asking people if they've ever had a problem with it. choices are yes and no. my guess is the results will look like this:
    YES: 0%
    NO: 100%
    mine doesn't move at all...

I meant have a problem. not looked at it and thought "well by golly that looks like a problem"

Look at it this way. Its been the same since '05, which is what five years? and still no TSB.. and its the first time everyone on this thread has heard about it..?

Now I'm not saying it couldn't break, but mine isn't in any danger of breaking any time soon.

You couldn't possibly know that any more than I could possibly know that it is. (In danger of breaking soon.)

Have you disassembled it and examined it for crack formation or permanent distortion?

No, I haven't either, yet 5 years isn't a very long time by which to judge this matter. I paid $30k for this truck and expect to have it at least 10 years.

Also we might have different parts in our trucks. Perhaps your's isn't flexing.

My co-worker has an '06 model, we just looked at it Friday, and his does it.

you could always rig up a reinforcement for the left side and see if it helps then..

OK, I just went out with a 10mm socket & tried to tighten mine down. It was not loose at all.

It appears to be exactly as the one pictured above, with one screw attaching the lower right side, and one screw at the middle top.

When I push the pedal, the housing starts to flex before the pedal actually moves against the spring. By the time the pedal starts to move, the housing has flexed about as much as it's going to. I didn't jamb the pedal down to the floor forcefully to see what would happen though...

But when I press lightly on the tip of the pedal, with just one finger, the housing flexes slightly left and downwards, before the pedal actually moves within the housing.

Guys, Caddman is just bringing up something that we as Tacoma owners should be aware about. Thank you very much man. Thank you Andrew H for the pics.

As others pointed out some may have the issue on their trucks, others may not have it - maybe those guys have new trucks? Who knows? Maybe in due time these parts do exhibits flexing. All parts in due time will show some wear and tear.
Now what we to do is keep an eye on this. Like brothers watching everybody's six. Like somebody has already posted, TSB are issued beacause we as consumers voiced out our concern.
It won't hurt if we check it right?

You may have a problem. Checked mine, 07, stiffer than hell. No real excessive movement. I can see why it is what it is though for the very reasons you say. To keep it from breaking off. Maybe one of your clips is dead or the screws are loose ? If you don't feel comfortable with it I'd be getting them to check it. I would not be worried about the one in my truck but your sounds scary. Remember totally ridged breaks easier.

I'd say you have a problem, went and checked mine again and it's not doing what you describe, Maybe a crack formed or the pin is out of position.

It's possible that my truck has an irregularity on the firewall itself, or on the back of the housing, that is causing the mechanism not to seat properly. I'll have to take out the screws and feel around to see what's up.

You're not alone though, I have the same issue. I wonder what the common denominator is? We both have 2009's... The other guys that have posted where theirs are solid are different years. I know it's a long shot but it has to be something.

    I take this guys side.

I'll admit I can see mine move about a millimeter or so but that's not enough for concern.

Well as I posted before, "My co-worker has an '06 model, we just looked at it Friday, and his does it."

Actually his might be an '07 though. The sticker on his b-post says "manufactured in 2006", but mine is a 2009 model, & was made in 2008.

    Maybe not.

But if you bend something over and over, every time you step on the gas, over and over for years, it stands to reason that it could eventually deform or even crack.

If it's doing this on 05's-07's too there most likely would have been a tsb already. Some older second gens have well over 100k miles no issues.

I'm not going to bother checking mine. If it fails while driving you can say I told you so. Lol

Thanks for pointing this out though.
