Help - New Leak

I did some quick googling last night and found the same thing. I think its called the Outer tie rod. Does this look right?

The stabilizer link bar prices seems a little high. Is it sold in pairs?

When installing the axle seal, how far was I supposed to press it in?

 

Those indeed look like the correct parts. I am uncertain on the stabilizers being sold in pairs though. I would phone up a dealership and ask. I also know that for certain vehicles, they can be sold left/right specific.

When installing the outter tie rod end, count the exact #of turns/threads to be sure you reinstall it in the exact same spot.

 

Its still leaking. I think the seal might be in the wrong position.

 

What did you use to install new seal? If any damage occurred it will still leak

 

I used one of the extension tubes to my shop vac. The wide end was used to press the axle seal in.

 

Did the seal fold over in any way? What does the leaking substance look/smell like? If you did the seal without damaging it upon installation, as well as insertion of the CV shaft, I’m not sure where the fluid could be coming from. Could it just be residual?

 

The seal did not fold at all. I don't think it was damaged at all. I was hoping it was residue too but after a test drive it was a slow drip. The leaking oil smells like gear oil.

 

Did you check for any damage or debris in the mating surfaces? If the metal has even a small gouge or nick, oil can seep through. But if it was dripping I am not sure what it could be. I’m hoping someone else will chime in. I’m very sorry that it’s not fixed though.

Have you checked for any tears in the CV boot itself? I’m just going down the list of possible causes.

 

I quickly checked and ran my fingers plus a rag along where the seal goes. It was dark and hard to see into it.

The I did not see any holes or rips in the CV boot. I was worried about ripping it when getting the CV in and out. Thanks for your help.

 

The axle seal has to be installed flush. Did you even install it the correct orientation ?

 

how far in did u press the seal in? some seals want to bottom out, some only flush mount where is this fluid coming from exactly? outer edge of seal or where the axel goes through

 

I did mine today and my seal bottomed out. Left about a 1/16” sticking out proud. Unless it was put in backwards or damaged somehow, I don’t understand how it could be dripping immediately afterwards.

Does the inner shaft have any sort of seal that could be at play here? I didn’t pay that much attention when doing mine. I just tapped it in. I even nicked the top edge a little but it’s not leaking anything.

Flush? I inserted it a little bit more so it has a small lip. I thought I read on another thread to stick it in 1/8 inch. I had the side of the seal with the little skirt facing out.

 

like @CBenfell said earlier any nicks or gouges in the mating surface will cause a leak and if the seal was damaged or not sitting properly will leak

 

I can't tell. But its all shares the same mating surface so it looks the same to me. Sorry.

 

Mine is a passenger side axle seal. Is that what you did too? I think the driver side might be different.

I did not see any other seals.

 

I had to do this like 4 times to get it to stop leaking.

just curious? I've never seen anyone use a shopvac extension did it go in easy? i usually use a socket that matches the size of the seal and gently tap it in evenly with a hammer
