What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

From what I have read, the mag lugs will work on the stock steelies. This is due to the fact that the end of the extended part has the same taper as an acorn lug.

My truck came with 15" aluminum alloys (mag seat) and a steel spare. I don't expect to have a separate set of lugs just to run the spare wheel.

 

Oh I see, in that case I understand you had too.

To add to all this, as said, Toyota commonly uses mag type lugs (I know them as shank style) on their stock alloy wheels & acorn for steelies. Many other makes still use acorn for alloy wheels.

Some people question why Toyota doesn't supply an extra set of acorn lugs to be used with stock steel spares if the vehicle has alloy wheels with mag lugs. Toyota mag lugs have a taper on the end so they'll work with steel spares also, just looks funny but it's only meant to get you home or to a tire shop. American cars that use use mag/shank style lugs just have flat ends, no taper.

 

One side is done. Should be done tomorrow so I get to pick up my truck in the morning.

Lol thanks but hell no! Never again. Funny that's exactly what my buddy said to me today. I've only jumped my truck once (my avatar) & that was like 12 yrs ago, well intentionally anyway.

 

Mines caught air more than a few times but it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

 

Yeah I've caught air & bottomed out the suspension plenty of times but not intentionally like how I jumped the truck that one day 12 yrs when I was uh "not myself".

Never had a problem until now but who knows, it could have been fractured previously so I would recommend that everyone should keep an eye on your shock buckets if you run your truck hard.

Dude was telling me that it's a common failure & he's seen much worse. When I sent him the pic he thought it was completely blown out. In that case you need a frame jig to have it pulled straight or cut off the buckets & weld on new ones (Toyota sells them). But when he saw it in person he said it was fine & welding it up was no problem.

Said it's party due to Icon's top hat design. Because of that slit they use for ext reservoirs it flexs on hard impact & can cause that type of damage more easily. Kings aren't slit all the way through. My old Donahoes weren't slit either which does make sense cause I never had this problem before I put these Icons on 3 months ago. The Icon top hats are much more thicker than the Donhaoes that aren't slit but even with the beef I guess it's still not enough.

But with the 1/4" top plates that I made fully welded on it's should hold up fine now, well I hope so anyway.

Gotta be just the center caps? I've never seen or heard of 7 lugs before.

Edit: nope just looked it up, apparently it's the real deal! WTFx2! I wonder if they even make after wheels with 7 lugs.

 

This makes me uncomfortable.

 

Goes to show you how cheap Ford is. Says for 99-03 F150 7700s they were "upgraded" to 7 lugs. Upgrade huh, upgraded but too cheap to go 8 lugs.

 

Yea those were special, next time you see an F150 like that and you’re with somebody that knows a little bit about cars you can fuck with them about it, make a bet maybe you’ll win a few bucks

F-150 with the heavy duty package got a 9" rear end with 7 lug axles

 

Wheels are mounted on the wrong side.

 

Depends on what they're used for. For crawling it's setup right.
