I've got a roof rack on the front of my cab (Yakima round bar). I find I frequently use it as a grab handle when exiting the truck.

Same. I have a grab handle in my 2nd gen and I've never once used it. I'm short (5'8") and my truck is lifted. Even my wife at 5'2" doesn't use it.

Seems like more and more people buy these things without ever sitting in them now.

Toyota would screw this up...Third market vendors are the preferred way to go for this.

    There IS a grab handle.

It’s round, and also doubles as a steering wheel.

Unless you have a significant lift no grab handle is needed. And if you're vertically challenged there is always the steering wheel.

My 86 and 91 had no grab handles so I used the steering wheel. When I had two 1st gens with grab handles I never used it, I still used the steering wheel. I didnt even notice it was deleted in the 3rd gen until these threads popped up.

No idea why it's such a big deal to need one now.

This is the reason. Two grab handles come on every door of the Cruiser and Lexus SUVs (top and pillar). My GX has as many grab handles as a Tacoma does cup holders.

Never use them, so I haven't noticed. Relatively short, at 5'11", by average white dude standards.

I don't get all the bitching about the truck. It could be that I'm coming from a 2000 Land Cruiser and 2015 Ford Fiesta, so the Tacoma feels ultra modern by comparison. Then again, my wife has an '18 Mazda CX5, with all the options, and I don't feel I'm losing much there. Her power seats and HUD are nice, but I've wondered how well those would last long term.

Why? You are less likely to lose a bead after airing down with the 16x7 as opposed to the wider 16x8.

Grab handles come and go, it's always been that way with Toyota. Some years have them on both A-pillars, some just just passenger. Some have them over the doors, one side or sometimes both. It's been that way since 1980s. Usually there's provisions for adding them, sometimes not. Of all the things to complain about this seems really trivial.

I was going to post this. The steering wheel locks when the engine is not running and makes a great support for entry.
