Hey guys, I wanted to get your opinion on this situation and see if anyone has come across something similar.

I bought my 2016 Tacoma OR 4x4 DCSB new in july of 2016. My truck has been in the shop numerous times for a lot of well known issues and tsbs (ECU, suspension noise, interior issues, etc). The truck recently overheated coming back from a trip and went in to the dealership for repairs. They found a faulty fan clutch and repaired it. I had a list of other issues to fix such as: defecting hood bracing, misaligned bed, poor shifting/stalling, corrosion on battery and cables and tiedowns, failed body mount, leaking rear differential, and a whole bunch more. While it was in, the dealer saw that a TSB was issued for the overheating and were going to perform the work for that too. The truck went in 7/30. It has been sitting at the dealership ever since. The dealership is still waiting on the parts related to the TSB. We've been going back and forth with toyota corporate for weeks now. Nobody knows when they will be arriving at the dealership so they can finish the work, but they are sitting in Japan apparently. I was just wondering if any of you have any helpful ideas. Thanks

I don't recall any TSB for overheating, however there is one for improving Air Conditioning performance in the heat.

I guess I'm just asking if any of you have been in a similar situation and know of how to get this solved faster.

I waited 5 weeks for a replacement blower motor in the middle of Texas summer, not sure if my weekly calls to the dealership made any difference though.

Yah I get daily calls every couple of days from the dealership and corporate just to let me know there is no update. It's just amazing to me that nobody can figure out when the parts will ship.

    Three choices:
    1. Wait because you cannot hurry the process
    2. Trade
    3. Go for the lemon law.

Sorry but that is all of your options. You unfortunately lose something on all of them.
My advice? Calmly talk to the GM of the dealership and go over all you problems and concerns. Chances are they can give you a good deal to mitigate your trade in somewhat and in addition, corporate could throw in an extended warranty no cost to further help you out.

as much as this sucks not having your truck, sometimes parts are on backorder that we dont know when they will be in and the dealer cannot help that, america corp maybe can help if its in the states but since the part is in japan from what you said then maybe you can try to reach corp in japan but its not like the part is gonna be put on a jet and flown over right away. As long as your in a loaner then toyota corp doesnt see a problem with it being a little to get the part. I work at ford and we have two mustang GT's in the back lot that are waiting on parts to be finished for them and they have been there about 2 months by now, both customers are in long term loaners and thats all we can do till we get the part.

Basically it sucks but about all you can do is call america corp and japan corp if you want but they already know as they would be footing a bill for a loaner they dont want to have to pay for.

Just keep driving their loaner. Keep in mind, Japan got hit by a typhoon a week or so ago, so your part may be sitting in a warehouse if docks and shipping have been severely disrupted. Not to mention hurricanes are whipping up, it’s that time of year. So any orders could very well be halted until things get fixed.

If it's just a TSB, it's probably not required so just get your truck back until the parts come.

if they kept my vehicle that long they would have to give me another Tacoma or truck of equal performance or better as a loaner till my truck was done, no question about it

Sorry Bill, they don't have to loan exact or even close. As long as it hauls the same amount of people in about the same space is all they have to do. The could loan you a Land Cruiser or a Corolla.

My brothers new Silverado developed a hole and needed a new engine. That was the first of June. He has a 30 foot trailer they pull 6-8 times a summer to various campgrounds. His truck sat at the dealership until a few days ago. They gave him a car as a rental. He explained how he needs a vehicle to tow, they didn't care. He went the entire summer and had to cancel all their trips. He literally tried everything, couldn't get it expedited, or something similar in the meantime.

More than likely doesn't qualify for lemon law. Most states have a 1 year from purchase timeline and also time sitting due to parts shortage does not count against them.

I'm having same problem waiting for a grill for a 2017 Tacoma. It's been in repair shop since Nov 7, 2018. Toyota Corporate informed me that shortage may be cleared up by end of February.. Frustrating to say the least. No truck but the warranty is getting eaten up...

If its been in that long i would just purchase one off craigslist or the fake pro grill and slap in it. Unless there is more to it than just a grill that would be one of the worst reasons to go without a truck for almost 3 months.
And ask for the extended warranty, even if its only for a year you would come out ahead.
