    Thanks,
Salvage yards is a good idea but its very difficult to find "any" Tacoma's in them at all, at least not around my area. I did glue the cover back together but would like to replace it for piece of mind and if I ever have to bring it to the dealer for warrant work.

Super fast mod. I probably spent 5min doing it. That includes me walking from the truck to the garage to get the tools to do it. Looks cool. My foam filter was perfect still but better piece of mind.

Honestly hardest part of the mod for me was getting the damn top cover off. Assholes wedged it in behind the front passenger light. (2013 4.0L)

So, why not just replace the stock filter every 3-4 years?

I'm guessing, but more than likely it's not available separately....

If this is problem why Toyota doesn't make a replacement filter that doesn't disentigrate or that is replaced yearly or some such? Why would they just let the problem go and then cover big repair costs? Not sure I want to do this on my 2013 2.7L. More inclined to do the filter clean and lube or find a replacement OEM filter. Surely they must exist?

This is probably the cheapest peace of mind mod possible for these trucks. Open it up and look at the oem “filter” it’s a quarter of a circle shaped foam block. I’d highly suggest doing the uni filter and just keeping the oem pieces in case something happens.

The foam filter is only a small part of the potential problem. The valves associated with the secondary air injection are vulnerable and a replacement foam filter (not available) or Uni filter mod only addresses the pump issue.

Hey guys I just did the uni-filter mod and had a question.

Most of the guides to this mod imply that there is a snap-on housing cover that is annoying to detach. Most of the guides are also for the V6 motor's.

Looking under the hood on my 2012 2.7L I didn't see a cover, just the top of the whole assembly with the lone T25 screw in the center.

Is there supposed to be a cover for our 2.7L trucks? Will the cover from a V6 fit? The cover looks like it does a good job protecting the uni-filter from taking on spray/moisture.

Has anyone had any issues with the uni filter and water? Just installed my uni filter this afternoon and works great. But not sure what will happen once I drive my Tacoma in the rain and if water will get sucked into the air pump.
