thats weird. have had that happen to a few vehicles over the years but its always in freezing weather... i see you are in Fla so that shouldn't be the case..

wonder if they loosen the adjustment on the rear brakes some.

I just make sure to take a scenic neighborhood drive to use the brakes before pulling into the garage after washing. Maybe add it to your washing routine?? And you get to snoop on the neighbors.

When you park the truck, do you leave the parking brake on regularly?

I had this happen to me this morning. I did wash my truck last night and this morning about to leave to work I set it into drive removed my parking brake and no movement. I stepped on the accelerator just a bit and nothing. For a sec I thought I had it on 4lo (at least that's what it felt like but no movement). The engine only rev'd. After accelerating a bit more in drive I moved very slowly and started hearing a squeaky sound coming from the rear so I stopped. Went into reverse and the same thing. So I put it in park, shut the truck off and restarted. That did the trick but my brakes felt a little weird (I think that was mental though). I'm in So. Cal so after reading the posts I guess it makes sense that after washing the truck and letting it sit over night with the parking brake engaged that the brakes lock up. The weird thing is that it went away after I shut the truck off and restarted it. I started to wonder if it was a computer issue.

I wonder if it’s a quick rust. My rotors will have slight surface rust if I wash my car, and let it sit overnight. I’ll sometimes hear a quick pop and grinding as the parking brake gets unstuck, especially if temps are under 70 overnight. Hope this helps.

Took a video captured from my phone with the locked left rear tire and gave it to dealership service manager, who showed it to Toyota USA today. They are keeping the truck at the dealership to check problem. They are taking measurement of the rear axle and brake drums ...?!

Agreed. My previous vehicle, 2001 Honda Civic 5spd, would do the same every-so-often...typically if it rained for 1-2 days and left outside without driving it. Pulling off in 1st gear i'd have to gun it to free the rear drum.

Edit: This would happen in warm weather, sometimes even after washing the car.

I would be frustrated to pay 80 bucks to Uber as well, few more of those trips and you can buy a bicycle.

This rear wheel lock up is a thing, and it is a problem. This has now happened to me twice, and today it almost left me stranded. It is not E-brake sticking. It is more serious than that. OP......did you even get the issue resolved?

I gotta deal with this this coming week and will report what I find out.

Did you not have your e-brake on? On drum systems, when you pull the e-brake you are actually engaging the drums themselves. As someone else said the old school remedy for this (wasn't uncommon when drum brakes were the norm) is release the brake and tap the drum with a hammer. Given that it's commonly happening after washes, sounds like they are getting rust bound somehow - in which case the big question is how is water so easily getting in the drum.

No, literally I am driving along, then “fwammo” full lock happens with no warning on the drivers side rear wheel. After manipulating the brakes / fwd-reverse / 2wd-4wd the truck would drive forwards a ways then “bam” full lock again. Just the one wheel. Happened about 7 times as I limped to safety. Sucks.
