i'm running 4.88's with the tsb and it's fine. there were alot of things i didn't mind about the stock tune. the tsb definitely improved alot and now that ovtune has access to more tables to adjust things how they really should be, i'm looking forward to 1.05.

so for example, i can hold 65 in 6th up mild grades without issue. if that threshold is reached, it downshifts to 5th.

the bad is that if i'm going 50 or 55, the truck may still want 4th which is now much more aggressive than it was. i've only seen this on really aggressive hills on country highways.

4.88's were the best thing for me on this truck. i can cruise at 65 at 1800-1900 rpm and still net 22mpg cruising.

i do think that atkinson isn't engaging as much. i think toyota has it tuned to only be really effective at the lower rpms which i'm not in anymore much on the highway. cruising around town i see mid 18's.

From the factory, this truck definitely should have had 4.30's or 4.56's minimum. not to mention that poorly placed 5th gear ratio.

Interesting, you think it's 5th that was poorly placed? I always felt fifth covered quite a wide range of speed and 6th should have been about halfway between where 5th and 6th are currently. That and third and 4th should have been spaced a bit closer to fifth.

Cruising in traffic at just under 2000 rpm @30mph in 3rd is getting really annoying.

    BUT....

If you have applied the TSB, or any tune that updates you to "new TSB status" (like v1.05 will),
then you can't flash back to any original factory tune (or OVTune) from prior to the TSB update.

1.05 will not update you to new TSB status. Per previous posts from Mat, if you are running an ECU version pre-TSB, 1.05 will include the updates/benefits provided in the updated ECU versions, but your ECU ID will reflect the older ECU. So "new TSB status" is inaccurate

But according to Mat v1.05 will incorporate all the same changes within the ECU that the TSB does. So regardless of my terminology, once you make the leap to the TSB (or v1.05) there's no going back.

    @OVTune

I’m interested in the increased alternator output you mentioned earlier.

I’ve observed the output to drop anytime my truck is not at idle. I don’t remember output changing with load also, all lights on or arb compressor kicking on.

Can you increase the output voltage to 14.4 to 14.6 and alter how the amp output under load.

The factory charging seems to be aimed at fuel economy not a full charge or full output under heavy load.

    Here are two examples.

Per OVTune in post 21430 in this thread... "you WILL get the TSB inside your tune when 1.05 releases"

Mat mentioned in this thread that he usually drops updates at the end of the week. That’s when he was sending out 1.04r to the guys with manual transmissions and it dropped on a Sunday. I’m curious if we can expect 1.05 to drop on a Sunday evening as well?

Well how does one flash to the new factory TSB, but not the OVTune?

I don't think it will change your ECU ID

That's why I am confused by what people have been saying. I've been very much under the impression from Mat's posts that 1.05 will have the benefits of the updated TSB ECU versions, but your ECU ID will not change (if you flash 1.05 with an older ECU). Because TSB is done via Techstream, not Mat's flashing software.

There's a difference between saying 1.05 will include the benefits of the TSB, and saying that 1.05 will turn you from 04B12 to 04B13, for example. Words mean things.

Your impression is the same that I had. 1.05 wont change the ID but will give you the benefits of the lastest TSB. Which is an advantage if you prefer to go up and down to/from older versions of the tune. As a post-TSB ecu id, i can only use calibrations for that which are 1.04R and the future 1.05. I thought about this recently but realized Id always be on the latest tune so its not an issue for me
