I use a crock pot with the lid off to cook it down. Don’t have to worry about scorching it.

 

It is edible as a meal corn. I hope to grow enough to grind it and make some corn bread or something. Otherwise, I know my ducks will love em.

Some types of flint corn can be popped. I have yet to try popping them.

 

We just found another pumpkin, that makes two.

Yep. Have a Greenhouse / Screenhouse combo I run all year for the last several years. Sometimes it works, sometimes …… I bought a greenhouse to overwinter my Hibiscus, then went stupid from there, planting veggies from seeds when I discovered I had a hot house. Here's a couple pix.

I did the 'scald and peel, then cut and strip the seeds' business for a year or two and had enough of it. When we expanded the garden when we moved I bought the processor and it cut my processing time by more than 50%. If you don't pre-cook the tomatoes, though, you'll want to run the waste back through the processor, because it misses a lot the first time around. I don't bother precooking them any more; I just slice them up, drop them in, and run everything through 2-3 times.

 

Yes, get one. I have one, and can't imagine making tomato sauce without one. I don't pre-cook them, and don't need to run the waste back through. It gets pretty much all it can with one pass. That's odd @Noelie84 that you need to run your's 2-3 times to get everything. By-the-way, I give the waste to the chickens, they love it.

I have also used mine for apple sauce. Worked great. That I cooked first, but still needed to run through a couple of times.

 

Yeah, I've found that I get a lot of juice on the first pass, and a lot more pulp on the second. Not sure why, but that's how she goes. Apples are the same way when I make sauce, and blackberries/raspberries. About the only thing I don't have to run through twice are grapes, but those get pre-cooked to get the color out of the skins so it may be why.

I thought about getting one, but it's pretty easy to hand crank. Way easier than a grain mill. I've done five gallons of tomato juce in one sitting pretty easy.

 

we had a hand crank one and it didnt last very long...we only used it a couple times and it wouldnt crank or something. My wife said it didnt work and threw it away before I could even look at it...lol

 

Meh. I have a stand mixer, but it's a 'Hamilton Bay' or something like that. Bought it for $25 at a yard sale. If I were to buy one new I'd probably invest in a kitchenaid, but until this one craps on me I've got no reason to replace it for that kind of $$.

 

My wife knows better than to do that. I never throw anything away without at least trying to fix it first. Your's was probably fine, it can be real hard to crank for the first turn or two when it's still dry. Once you get the juce flowing it gets easy.

 

typically my wife knows I can usually fix most anything...but lately shes been in a funk and I dont know why...
