the right head unit for me, 1st gen taco

well while im finding all my short circuits and wiring up hellas i wanna go ahead and install a new head unit that can accomidate an ipod, i drive 2hrs a day for work and the radio doesnt get decent signal half way between lol

i know nothing about this and just need reccomendations, however nothing expensive my budget is low

 

I've had good luck w/Sony in my other vehicles. Not sure an aftermarket will help you with radio signal (not sure it won't though)...may want to try Sirius (which is awesome!).

 

I've had my JVC with Ipod hookup for two years and it's easy to navigate through the iPod on the headunit. I love it.

 

Errr...meant to add, you might try a low-cost fm transmitter for the ipod if cost is a concern.

 

ive tried a transmitter, its always fuzzy, im not so concerned with signal strength as i just wanna listen to good music on the highway haha.

by cost is a concer i meant that i cant afford something like a 500 buck head unit, i have other stuff in need of work, but most head units are in my acceptable range

 

I had the older Pioneer UB5000, they dont make it anymore. but this is very similar.
I loved it and pioneer is a very good, reliable audio manufacturer.

i just got an alpine cda-105 off of crutchfield for 209 shipped in 3 days. arriving on friday and it came with the $30 ipod cord free since its a signature or some shit. i will let you know if its good

I'm selling my Alpine single din head unit with iPod hook up where you can control it thru the radio or plug it in the aux jack. I've had it for abt three years, it's a great simple Alpine. Nothing fancy. Bought it for 150. I'm gonna sell it for 100 with iPod cable if your interested.

most anything wil fit the first gen double din opening. .....if you go with a single din, you'll just gain a little cubby hole under the head for storing shit.

 

i got a sony explode unit for the wifes honda pilot and it comes with a usb port. you can plug your ipod right to it using your cord you use to the computer. It will charge it too. it cost like $155... the sound quality is actually real good.

Walmarts sells the Xplod units and they are pretty good, and inexpensive.

 

i got mine at best buy. the unit cost $149 + $20 for a 4 year warranty(if you want it). + $20 for the harness. im very impressed with it.

 

I would suggest just going to crutchfield, and doing a search by year/make/model and it will hook you up with just about everything you could want and everything will 100% fit your truck. Then you can filter by a feature, like aux-in input and then at the very least find a compatible HU model to shop around for.

 

FM Transmitters suck.

If you're going to go the cheap route like that, I recommend an FM modulator. You never get static interference like you always do with a transmitter and it's super easy to install.

The only downside of the modulator is that it does (at least mine which is 3 years old now) cut off some of the music signal. So it doesn't sound nearly as full as a USB or 3.5 mm connection

 

use crutchfield's fit guide to find radio that will fit in your truck. I bought a JVC discontinued model new from Best Buy for $57.. HUGE improvement over the stock unit sound-wise, even with the same speakers.

I'd go with a Pioneer DEH-P5200HD because it has HD radio built in.
