Canadian? It looks like someone is making an OEM model for them. Wish they would list detailed specs because based on their literature - https://s3.amazonaws.com/toyota.sit...ra_quick_start_guide_en.pdf?ck=09172018040947

    EDIT:
Over $500!! for a single channel camera... that's a no.

2-Channel with better quality recordings, GPS and wifi can be had for less than $350.

Oh absolutely! You can definitely get better for less money. Only I negotiated it into the sale so I got it for free.

I'll be getting the Rexing V1 fron/rear dashcam with parking mode cables for less than $200. Look on Amazon or Best Buy and they're rated high as the best cam for the buck. I don't need all of the cloud connection stuff, I mainly want it for insurance purposes as an indisputable eye witness.

Blackvue because I need parking mode and have a back up battery too. Trying to at least capture/deter thieves since they took my stuff at my house.

I hope you never have to, but if you do the justice boner you get is indescribable in a situation where the other party is being an asshole.

I had that one, there is a GoPro adapter mount on shapeways for the v1. On the downside, even though it has a monitor, you can't instantlly play back the video. Need to xfer to a laptop first. So there's no way to show the cop at the scene what happened. Unless you carry a laptop in your car at all times :/

A small inconvenience, but the police don't process the accident scene differently because they know who is or is not at fault. They write a report.
The responsibility to place blame rests with your lawyer and insurance company, show them the video.

In fact, I would not even mention that I have dash cam footage to anyone at the scene. That video, even if the accident was not your fault, could be used against you.
The video could be used to show your driving behavior before the accident and predispose you to be criticized about your driving habits. Maybe you rolled a stop sign, were speeding, on the phone or arguing with your passenger(s) minutes before the accident.

Keep your trap shut, have the police do their report, go home and archive the video for future use by your legal council or insurance company.

    Too much.
For the people that have the BlackVue, where are you putting your GPS module? Does it have to be on the window? Can it be installed in the overhead console area instead, and still get a strong enough signal?

A dashcam needs to have power for a short time after a wreck so it can save the last file after the power to the power cord has gone off. Getting that last file saved is really the most important part of a dash cam. I strongly recommend that you always get a capacitor type of dash cam. Avoid the battery type of dash cams. Heat during the summer or cold during the winter will kill a dash cam battery. Often the battery can fail and you will have no way of knowing it until you review your videos and notice that the last file is not saving. Always get a capacitor type of dash cam. Also get into the habit of occasionally pulling your SD card and checking over your videos to see that everything is working right.

It is a camera that has an internal, short term power storage device (capacitor). This device will continue to power the camera, for ~30 seconds after power is turned off and allow the last recorded file to be properly written to the memory card of the camera.

The Black Box A118 dash cam has such a system.

I like my Rexing V1 but I've had to return one under warranty and the one I have now won't boot completely 1 in 10 times. Have to turn the power off and back on and it boots right up. Besides that it has worked ok. Video quality is good. I may try a different SD card to see if it makes any difference.

My A118 has been attached to the windshield for 3+ years with no issues. Boots up and starts recording every time.
