Only read Mat's posts or ask him directly what your calibration ID will be after 1.05. There is way to much speculation in this thread to take anyone else's post to heart.

My assumptions are from reading his posts. My confusion is from reading other people's. This is because to me, my assumption seems like the only logical one.

Mat can program the ECU calibration ID to whatever he wants, he even mentioned he can program the it to read "OVT" instead of "04B0X".

If you have ECU firmware 04B03 and flash to 1.05 via PCMFlash, your ECU firmware will stay at 04B03, yes it will contain fixes from latest TSB (04B04) that Mat put in. But it does not alter the table and memory locations.

If you flash to latest TSB 04B04 via Techstream, that WILL alter the table / memory locations, which make legacy tunes 1.04 and older incompatible.

In other words, if you are on 04B03, you can flash to 1.05. If you don't like 1.05, you can flash back to 1.04, 1.03, etc. If you are on 04B04, you can flash to 1.05. If you don't like 1.05, you can't flash back to 1.04 and older. Unless Mat puts out a new version of 1.04 that is compatible with 04B04, say 1.04R :anonymous:

Hope that clears up some of your confusions

yes, too big of a gap between 4th and 5th. and too close of a gap between 5th and 6th. shortening up 5th would solve alot of issues folks have.

Yes, that was my point. I guess my sarcasm didn't come across as I hoped. He have the ability to release revised version of legacy tune that are catered to the updated ECU firmware.

I’m not implying that Matt’s tune is diminished, only that the benefit might be when comparing a pre and post TSB vehicle. By all accounts, everyone agrees that the TSB ‘helps alot’. So that has to eat into the gains made by Matt.... the tune is going on a vehicle that’s performing better than one without the TSB. End results are probably near identical... the gains slightly different.

Until stock learning kicks in and it turns back to shit for all those folks not on the tune. The reports are already coming in on those TSB threads about learning.

Fair enough. If the TSB gains are fleeting and temporary, then yes, it matters when you flash. Flash before TSB or after learning cripples you, benefits seem (are) greater.

I think even 1.04R has some learning. For the past couple of days, I been driving around town in S5 instead of D, I swear S mode shifts are better than D, and the "race to 5th" is not as prominent in S mode. I flashed 1.04R August 14th, have about 1000 miles on it.

Matt has 100% controll over the ECU. Learning has been programmed to do nothing. No learning happening.

That is true with 1.04 and 1.03, I am not so sure if that's true with 1.04R.

Think Mat has killed the OEM learning on those and it will be that way on 1.05. It is the learning that makes the OEM TSBs a big disappointment and a POS. JMO. Hope 1.05 comes in the next week or so.....

I think you're right for sure, but I also think that 6th is just too tall for this engine. Not even so much for the engine, but the aerodynamics of the vehicle combined with the lack of low available torque make 6th far less efficient and useful above 60mph. I mean, sure you can go 75,80mph in 6th. But I know when I'm doing that I'm getting 16-17mpg. Which I think is the exact opposite of what you'd see in similarly specced vehicles with a sixth gear.

This is based on my experience so far with 1.04R, so its pure speculation on my part, but I don't think learning is completely eliminated from 1.04R (based on latest TSB 04B04). With 1.03, I feel no difference in shifting behavior between D and S mode, even after several months and thousands of miles. With 1.04R, there is a difference in shifting behavior between D and S mode, about 1 month since flash. S mode drives like how D mode drove when I first flashed to 1.04R.

S mode have its own set of maps and learning does not impact S Mode, following that logic, I think some learning occurred, although the degradation / impact of learning is drastically reduced with 1.04R, compared to OEM tune.

I am confident Mat will eliminate learning in 1.05, but until then, I'll just drive around town with 1.04R in S5.

I’ve got 2,000+ miles on 1.04r and it runs as good if not better than the day I flashed. But I don’t have a slushbox to deal with…

As far as I'm aware S mode is just a gear limiter. The truck can and will downshift if it thinks it will stall. There's no stopping that. But it will not go into a gear higher than the S gear you are in
