What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Regarding the brake line- I have to ask what seems a stupid question, only because I have been there, done that myself.

You were using a backup wrench, right? I am assuming you're trying to disconnect a section of brake line from another, where there's a union between them.

I've fought that same fight as well, not realizing I needed to stabilize the union with another wrench. I doubt this is your problem, but hey, we all make mistakes.

 

All I needed to loosen the nut on my brake lines was one 10mm flare nut wrench, nothing else (no second wrench). Mine came off easily, the only difficult part of that job was getting those damn metal C-clips off...those fuckers are a pain in the ass.

I did run into this issue though trying to help a friend do his brake lines on his 2nd gen, we couldn't get the 10mm nut to come loose no matter how hard we tried (without twisting the brake line to the point of failure). Not sure why his was so difficult and mine wasn't since the setup is the same, but maybe we just needed some PB blaster.

 

There are coolant lines going to the idle speed controller that could be leaking. Or the rubber gasket between the throttle body and idle speed controller.

 

Absolutely. Some surface rust but that’s it.

 

I’m in Augusta. The Toyota community in GA is pretty small...and I don’t have a dedicated off road rig I’m comfortable breaking and denting up yet.

 

That Cat is a bitch. Rounded one bolt and broke another. Just left it on because I didnt want to deal with it.

I ended up drilling a hole through the wheel well and using a o2 clamp. Still leaks a little bit AFRs are normal. Planning on a nightmare of a job next Saturday to make it right. I feel like getting the suds out will take quite a while.

 

The biggest problem was getting the Y-pipe out. JBA headers are not the highest quality and the space is sooooo tight. No worries though. Welded in 2 studs, new O2, and she purrs quite nice. Also swapped in a new fuel filter.

Unfortunately, my LTFT is still too high. Gotta keep looking . . .

 

Yes, it always puts your new post at the bottom of whatever page you are on at the time and also as the last item posted. It is a bit confusing. May be a laptop/desktop issue, IDK.

 

Transmission question?
Truck was in a roll over I assume the transmission was working when rold. Got the truck running.
When in reverse it ingadges when first put in but eventually you have to rev up the RPMs to get it to go.
Any ideas on what’s going on in there?

 

Has anyone ever converted the Passenger front window to be auto as well? Always found it annoying that only the drivers was in a extended cab.

The coolant line under the intake could be leaking, I’ve had to do 2 of them for a leak from there


(Actually I just noticed that’s above the intake, could need new gaskets for the lower plenum, there’s coolant running through there too)

You think it would be a momentary vs constant switch swap. I hate that my driver side is the only one as well.

 

Ideally I also want them both to go UP all the way after one click and not just down (like in my '04 Highlander)

Remounted my resis for my ADS CO, made a new washer fluid resivour via @Blackdawg.

Been trying to decide on a new set of leaf packs. I rebuilt mine the OMD way using bilstien 10” 5125, but I think my packs were so shot, I had to build just off the main leaf and use 4 Chevy leafs. It rides terrible unless I’m hauling something. I had planned on a set of wheelers 8 pack until I realized they’re not available right now. I talked to AllPro, but they basically said that their packs wouldn’t be good for my application. I ride unloaded most of the time, but I do haul a ATV on a 6x10 trailer, and occasionally 2 ATVs on a 6x14 double axle. It seems like the only other off the shelf option I would have is Dakar, which seem to have mixed reviews. Not really sure I want to go the custom route. Any suggestions?

Spring under axle leafs, I enjoy the way s10 leaf springs and Mazdas were. A new set of leaf springs built heavy duty 1 added leaf and a little more arch is 130 a side.
