It's called SofTex by Toyota, it isn't leather. It's synthetic leather. From what I've read it isn't the old Naugahyde, and it certainly isn't cowhide leather.

Some kind of hybrid thing between Naugahyde and treated cowhide. Seems ok from what I've read on 4Runner forums. Real leather, the bolsters get rubbed from going in and out, then what you see is the hide, no color remains.

This pleather, it gets rubbed but the color remains. Pleather, you wipe it with a damp cloth then Aerospace 303 to condition it. Real leather, not so easy even if the real leather is in pristine condition.

It is bonded leather, basically the Pringles of the leather world.

You say this like it's a BAD thing. Sure, every Pringle probably takes a few days off your life, and that's likely why I don't have long to live...

Never heard of bonded leather before, good to know just as a general knowledge kind of thing. So cowhide scraps ground up, bonded and colored with tint. Seems ok to me, real cowhide doesn't take neglect well, and once it starts to crack or the surface tanning wears that's what you have forever.

Actually doesn't matter what upholstery, the side bolsters take a beating from asses and legs sliding in. Use the grab handles, steering wheel, sidesteps to lift your ass above the bolsters.
