You shouldn't have had to pay for a TSB. Not much labor involved, and to my understanding, it's almost a recall.

I walked in with the paper work printed out and there was no questions asked...I’m out of warranty and didn’t even buy the truck at that dealership

Thank You! I definitely think there is enough room, it’s just making sure the winch cutout is in that lower section. It’s either that or I have to get the SDHQ and then make a cutout in my AVID Bumper Guard which would be fine too. Trying to see which option would be best.

 

You should never have to pay for the TSB. Toyota is actually supposed to pay the dealership for doing it. The dealership probably got paid twice for it then.

 

TSBs are only covered if the vehicle is still under warranty.

 

There is an entire thread specially for this particular update and it is stated many times throughout the thread that as long as your truck is under 80,000 miles and they declare that the issue exists, they have to perform the TSB. But again, that's what I've been told.

 

I think in this case, it's a show of goodwill from Toyota, but I don't believe they're obligated to perform a TSB by law outside of warranty. Some people see a TSB like this one that has special circumstances (probably because it's a software update and doesnt take much shop time), and apply the same conditions to every TSB and get pissed when the dealer doesn't pay for it.

 

Mine is not under warranty and got it no questions asked

 

My other Taco was 2000 miles out of warranty when they did it. Like I said, special circumstances.

 

So if i understand you correctly.. you don't have to take the plastic off, you can just drill the hole, as long as the location is closer to the drivers side, and as low as possible to avoid the steering components behind the plastic and easy access to it to fish the wire and install the switch..

This TSB is covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty which is different from the Toyota warranty. The No Charge warranty period is listed on both of the TSB's.

It reads: "This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date."

"Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin"

We can assume your truck is not 8 years old! If you have less than 80,000 miles and you went in with the problem as described in the TSB, then the work should be performed at no charge. You are due a refund. I would be calling Toyota corporate.

 

Got my wheels today! Need bigger tires but for now it’ll do!
