Couldn't get off of my driveway... Ebrake was stuck.

So I washed my truck yesterday... Today I go to leave for work, everything seems normal, but the ebrake doesn't release. Rocked it back and forth, between R and D, trying to break it loose, but it wouldn't give. Even tried just gassing it, but all that did was leave some rubber on the pavement, and got some wheel hop from the wheel that did break loose. Driveway is flat. Dealership says that's normal, I'm calling BS. Anybody else have any ideas?

I know the that surface rust happens and it can cause brakes to stick... I get that, but a seize-up hard enough to keep from moving at all? I'm not really convinced that could happen overnight. I've had plenty of vehicles and not a single one of them has ever seized up like this, after parking overnight following a wash.

Apparently they don't care to be put away wet sometimes.

 

I have not looked yet in detail on my '18 but the brakes appear the same as the older trucks. What would happen with them is moisture would get trapped under the boot of the Ebrake bell crank lever on the backing plate, seizing the pivot. I used to just check that for moisture and hit with WD40 occasionally. It can also freeze in winter.

 

Next time engage your elocker and it will move.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I guess this is more of a design flaw if they consider it normal. I'll just have to start keeping an eye on it.

 

I wash my truck when the sun is going to since its cooler. I'll engage the e-brake when I'm done and the next time I go to drive it I notice it gets stuck but will break free when I hit the gas. I've had no problems so should be normal.

 

I have never had this issue. Are you guys using a pressure washer to wash your trucks? I hand wash with a hose and I always set my ebrake when parked. Should I start releasing it before washing?

 

I usually use a pressure washer, but this last time was with the hose. I let a coworker borrow my pressure washer and haven't gotten it back yet.

 

This sounds normal to me, and every other car that I've owned has behaved this way.

 

can you show where that pivot is? easy to inspect/ keep oiled?
