T-SB-0077-16 Rev 1

I have a 17 and had the usual concerns and brought in the two newer TSB's (0058 and 0062)in person when dropping off the truck. They managed to do a flash, but they did the 0077-16 according to the paperwork. No idea how they arrived at the oldest one I didn't refer to, but they did. My question is did it solve the concerns for you? I'm wondering if there are differences in the 0077-16 and the two newer ones (which I have gathered are ultimately the same reprogram).

 

So did you get the 0077-16 done first, AND THEN the 0062? If so, was the first flash helpful, and then the second even more helpful? They somehow updated my 17 last week with the "older" 0077-16 tsb. Haven't gotten to drive it much at all, and am wondering if they just skipped going to the most recent update, which would be completely ridiculous, IMO.

 

Yes i did and after about 2000miles l has a delayed downshift when I have to speed up to pass someone. Also it downshifts too early when trying to coast... the transmission can’t make up its mind

 

They said they brought it straight to the 0062.

 

All I can say is get newest one. You won't regret it. Feels like a brand new truck!

 

What is the number for the newest one you speak of? I am picking up a used 2018 ORDC with auto tranny on Monday. Truck has 10k miles on it... I have not test driven it yet as I made the deal over the phone. Do the 18's need this update??

I traded my 2013 AWD V6 Toyota Venza for my 2017 taco... I did that so I can tow my R-Pod travel trailer and have a place to put the generator instead of inside the R-Pod over the axle. The Venza towed much much better than this Tacoma. I am looking at Ford 10 speeds now since Toyota has not been able to take care of me. My 2017 had 11,000 miles on it when I bought it and I can imagine the PO made the same conclusion since he bought a used Ford at the same Toyota dealer I went to.

 

You are right TacoPod, the dealers know what is going on with these 3rd gen tacomas. But they play dumb.

I replaced my 16 DCOR (after Toyota USA bought it back from me when i hired a Lemon Law attorney) with a much lower tow rated Wrangler JKU. The jeep tows better when maxed out than my Toy did driving empty on the highway. My wife's Lincoln MKT, with a 5k tow rating, tows effortlessly. It's 6spd auto rarely downshifts with a load behind it.

The auto/v6 pairing in the 3rd gen is a mess. No tsb will fix it. A tsb cant make 5th and 6th gear shorter.

 

I have rev 1 done on my 2017 and considering this new one T-SB-0062-18.

Hopefully they will do it for free along with the AC blower recall.

Anyone had luck getting both done at once?

Had terrible, erratic shifting in my 2018 TRD OR V6. If you're slightly OCD as I am, it's all you'll think about every time you drive it. Ugh. Gladstone Toyota in Oregon applied TSB005818 and now it feels smoother. Honestly I was having a hard time enjoying the truck at all -- hopefully this changes that.

 

The shifting was erratic when my truck was stock, but i was getting a solid 20+ mpg on every drive. Now that i have a lift and tires its even worse...it will not shift into 6th gear for more than a few seconds and then shifts back down to 5th and stays there. Also between 70-80 mph it will stay in gear until 4-4500 rpm and then shift (and this is on flat ground). what's worse is that now going down hill even on a steep grade 6-8% it will not shift into 6th gear, it will always stay in 5th. My fingers are crossed the TSB solves my issues. i am only getting 12-15 mpg now.

 

i have the exact same issue. it will hold the gear until redline if i push it that far and then it will shift. Now i am having the issue of it not shifting when going downhill... it will hold the gear even when on throttle.

 

Had my dealership update my ecm during my 5k appointment yesterday. I don’t know the tsb number and all that jazz, but I had every single issue you guys have had with the trans and it’s COMPLETELY GONE now. The tech said they do about 5-6 a week it’s so common. Hope you fellas can find a dealer that’s on top of their game and gets your truck right without a hassle

 

Does this TSB apply for 18's? I have an 18 DCSB Sport AT and before I drop money on the OVTune, I want to have this done.

 

Everyone can either go to the dealer and have them pull up their VIN, or go to the toyota website to see if their vehicle has had it done. (I think this is it https://www.toyota.com/recall)

A 2018 should have had it done... Should... I have 2016, I have had mine done twice. Why? Because the truck thinks it's smart and learns. Each time, My flash has lasted about a month and it goes back to sucking... OVTune is on my short list.

A question on TISB 0077-16-1, if anyone is still on this thread-- I recently (Oct 2019) convinced my local dealership, after much effort, to update my 2016 with this update. Looking at the paperwork, it mentions 007-16, not 007-16-1. Can I rest assured it is actually the most recent update and the tech wasn't super specific in filling out the tag?
