Guys with Prerunners V6 and 4x4 V6, how really bad was your power loss when you jumped from stock tires to 33s?

It depends completely on your driving style. If your someone who sees the rev limiter every key cycle you'll notice it alot more than someone who rarely goes full throttle. I noticed a significant difference and I'm supercharged and geared. Consider the tire weight when your shopping as that can be a big factor.

    That's very subjective.

    Noticeable? Yes. Undriveable? No.

But I tend to drive like an old man anyways

I have the 34/10.5/17 KO2 tires on my Tacoma and in my opinion, the power loss was unacceptable. Steady highway cruising at 75-80 just wasn't possible. I ended up on 4.56 gears and I'm glad I did. Highway cruising is no longer an issue but the truck still isn't quick. However, I still think I have something (maybe a dirty fuel pump/filter) that's keeping me from full power because I get 15mpg (uncorrected) no matter what. I think I should be doing better than that.

I put on some Cooper S/T Maxx 255/80/17 this summer, and I agree with @Redsyota they are heavy AF.

I noticed a pretty big difference only in passing people on the highway, we have lots of 2 lane here so you have to pass when you can. That skinny pedal has to hit the floor sometimes to get that done.

Now I have to pre-shift to 4 before I put the skinny pedal down. Once the pass is complete, back to D. Never had to do this on stock setup.

    I had 245-70-16s stock. Running 285-70-17 KO2s (32.8") currently. No re-gearing or SC yet.
YES - Power loss is definitely noticeable when accelerating; cruising at 50-70 mph is not too bad.

I feel like my Taco begs for a re-gear and a SC every time I accelerate.

Noticeable difference. Been driving on 33's and stock gears for 2 years now, and I'm honestly ready to regear to 4.30. Lots of excessive overdrive engage/disengage even on the slightest inclines on the highway or headwind.

Huh. I have the same times and I can cruise at 80 without much problem - even fully loaded. Even on shallow hills the torque converter will stay engaged. It takes either strong wind or a fairly moderate hill to kick me out of 5th. Actually, wind is the real killer, since the RTT acts like a giant kite on the top of the truck.

Last year I drove through Colorado fully loaded with a trailer, and that sucked. If I lived in the mountains of CO I'd own a Tundra.

What are your rpms at ~80 though? Around 75 to 80 mph I'm at about 2100 rpms.

Mine was quite noticeable. Went from a 16.5-17mpg average to a 14.5-15mpg average (sometimes down to 12). Did not regear as I know I'll be going to a 37 or 38 in the next two years. But ultimately I wish Toyota would come to their senses and give us a V8 option. And I'm not even asking for a big block chest size V8. The 4.6L that they put in the Lexus GX would be great and honestly I doubt there would be a decrease in MPG. We would probably see the same if not better since our trucks are light weight. Right now we get V8 gas mileage with 4 cylinder performance.

If you've got the money and you know for sure you'll keep to a 33 and not go bigger then I would recommend a regear for sure. Gain back some of your acceleration.

    152k miles.
You're asking what the RPMS are when the speedo indicates 80 or when you're actually going 80? I'll have to check my RPMs later.

I should have rephrased my post. You can stay at that speed but it seems to be tough to speed up any amount without it shifting or unlocking the tqconverter. How many miles on your Taco? Wind is definitely an issue for this truck no matter what. I've noticed that since day one. It's like driving a barn into the wind powered by a tricycle.

I notice the lack of power in Colorado too. However, the best solution to that isn't a V8....it's boost. You won't lose as much at altitude. :D

Uf! I think that I am going to keep my 265/75. I never go offroad, so, it doesn't make any sense to me to lose all that power just for looks and gain 1 inch more.

    Good choice!

They made the biggest difference for off road, I love these tires :headbang:

I feel like I have lost some power after the Maxtrac spindle lift, maybe because those motherfuckers are heavy like shit. I don't know! But the truck still have enough power and drive very good. Some transmission jerking from time to time around 40mph, but I can live with that! I have 4 inch in the front and 2 in the rear and I am running 265/75 r16

Best way to compare is calculate the weight of your wheel/tire cbo with 265s, and then if jump up to 33s.

Going from P rated 265/70r17s to E rated 255/80r17 was over 10lbs difference per tire I think. I ktoiced the MPG loss more than the power but I don't tow anything, and I'm a grandma from 0-45mph to help conserve fuel :D

You will really notice a difference in 4hi with stock gears and 33's . Especially in sand. 4hi was nearly worthless in soft sand without any momentum.

For Highway, mine was a total dog but I drove it for a year before regearing. If you don't offroad the truck it is manageable.

Here is a photo of the truck! I'm planning to get dakars for the rear, but I don't know... Does you guys think that the weight of the new leaf pack will also affect the truck performance?
