I had a guy one year at the gym in my hometown, true story here ok...

So working out with my buddy who doesn't even care about football, and he randomly asks me what I thought about the upcoming Alabama/Georgia game in 2015. He was an Alabama "fan" btw, like I said didn't care about football that much. So Georgia QB, Lambert hadn't turned the ball over at all up to that game and was really a good QB. I told him I thought they had a great chance against Bama, at least the best I'd seen so far because of their passing game and Bama's secondary having some ???'s. So this random guy in the gym (the kind that wears bama socks/underwear/shoelaces/sweatbands everywhere he goes) like charges over to me and says Georgia ain't got a damn chance Alabama is the best in the world blah blah blah. He goes on to say that the Georgia QB has thrown INT's (pulled up stats and proved that wrong) and that Derrick Henry is the best RB ever and leads every stat (proved that wrong by showing him Fournette was currently beating him in ever stat possible). The guy goes on to tell the gym staff how much of a dumbass I am and that I'm obnoxious as an LSU fan. The staff (owner was my dentist) kicked the guy out of the gym for being a downright liar about other members. My buddy I was working out with looked at me like "how'd you not punch the shit out of him? and how'd you know all those stats?" I simply said because I watch more than Bama play football.

That's what I deal with simply by existing as an LSU fan here.

 

Haha but every team has them though. When I was down in New Orleans for the National Championship when Bama played LSU, I witnessed a group of LSU guys on Bourbon street threaten a Bama family (Father, mother, and 3 children all under the age of 10) that if came into the restaurant they were in, the kids would witness their dad getting his face "kicked in" for having on Bama attire.

There are schools that could outbid Alabama if they wanted. Texas A&M has multiple billionaire boosters. Alabama has none.

It's not 100% about the teams you've beaten... It's about how you look when you play, how you're playing, etc. If one team dismantles an unranked team and another team beats a ranked team on a last-second field goal, you could watch both games and come away with the impression that the team with the blowout was better.

Vegas sets odds to try to get even money on both sides. It's not always about who "they" think is better.

 

so that goes back to the scheduling argument of why even schedule a difficult opponent? LSU should just schedule arkansas state every week, blow em out, get tons of credit and go to the playoffs.

 

I didn't say not to schedule good teams OOC. I said that the rankings are also about how you're playing.

That plan would work for La State if they could figure out how to go undefeated in SEC play.

 

don't have to go undefeated. lose your side of the conference by 1 game and just sit back and pay your way into the playoffs. that's how it works.

How did Alabama pay their way into the playoffs? Is there a bag man I don't know about?

 

not literally "pay" their way in (well maybe but who knows?) but sit back and lose your conference, not go to the title game, and get put into the playoffs because you bring a good tv viewing. same way they got in again in 2011 over OK St.

you'll never see it from a different point of view because you're a fan of the team.
