What's the difference between the 95 & 95.5 tacos

i cant figure this out i got a feb 95 taco i try and get parts but most things say 95.5 is there a difference or what

 

no difference. if you have a 95 taco it means you have a 95.5 taco. they didnt make tacomas before the 95.5 model year. btw post up some pictures!

 

during 95, both toyota pickups (hilux) and toyota tacomas were sold.

i'm assuming it's called a 95.5 tacoma so customers understood that they came after the hilux.

 

Yes, sometimes companies do mid year runs. This was a transition year so you can imagine that finding a 95 hilux or 95.5 Tacoma is pretty rare!

The Tacoma model was supposed to be introduced at the beginning of the 1995 model year (fall 1994), with 1994 being the last year of 'Toyota truck' production. There were delays, so Toyota continued building PreTacos at NUMMI as 1995 models. When they finally got Tacoma production up and running they labeled them '1995.5' models. This was the first time Toyota designated a mid-year model.

The mini Tacoma (1st gen) started in 95.5 and went until 2004. The difference in the pre 95.5 five lug is torsion front suspension vs coil spring in 95.5, so I'm sure the 6 lug Tacoma 4x4/prerunner technically started in 95.5.

 

Just make sure its a tacoma and not a pickup.

There were 95 toyota pickups available that aren't tacomas (search google). The two trucks are totally different in looks. People automatically assume the 95 truck is a tacoma all the time.

The 1989 - 1995 USDM Toyota pickup (essentially the same as the international market Hilux) was a totally different 'species'. The Tacoma was a US-designed small pickup that replaced the earlier one in the USDM.

Vendors, used car dealers, and others often list the first Tacoma year as either 1995 or 1996 rather than the correct 1995.5 designation. So you need to double-check anything listed as '1995' to make sure it's really for whichever species of truck you're interested in.

 

thanks everyone. Who ever made up the .5 should be shot im almost positive they wouldnt make two different models of tacomas in the same year.

Toyota could've simply labeled the first Tacomas as '96. Nissan did exactly that with the new 240SX the same year - the '96 model came out in Spring of '95.

 

The Tacoma came out in 1995 mid-year, but the Prerunner did not come out until 1998.

Nissan did the same thing with the 1986.5 Hardbody.

 

What gets really confusing is when you have an early or late model year and some of the parts don't interchange. My 91 Chevy K2500 is that way. I bought a front u joint and had to take it back because it was for an early model and mine is the late model.
