Cool. I'm looking at the Guard Dogs in a 285/75 r16. Set of 4 is about 600 bucks. I think I'm just going to buy a set through them. Even if they wear out sooner rather than later, I can replace them all and still come out cheaper than what I bought my set of coopers for. Lol

 

serious question, how difficult would it be to send my 3rds to ECGS? can't say I've got great knowledge on what that fully entails.

 

EXACTLY. Dave has the guard dogs in about that size and has had great success with them. The Guard Dogs are what I have as well.

 

I've seen in the reviews that people are seeing anywhere from 40k to 70k out of a set. How are Dave's holding up that you know of?

 

The 3rd is easy to pull. The clamshell would be a little harder, but not bad.

Maybe they can send you shipping materials?

50K is great for a mud tire.

As far as shipping goes, just get ECGS to send you a shipping label with your order. Hardest part is getting a box that'll support the weight. of course duct tape and bubble wrap could solve that...

Might be worth it to just drive there and use the return trip for break in. Kill 2 birds with one stone

 

yeah I just send another email before reading your posts asking for shipping material from them. then it's ECGS standards and packaged how they would.

the return trip would be a major pain because you have to do 50 miles or less on a trip for the first 500. so being so far away it would be like a 3 day return trip haha. guessing a couple hours between 50 miles trips and whatnot. it would be much easier to do my 50 mile break ins here at home.

 

I'm curious to see how all this goes. Wanting to re gear through ECGS in the future as well. I hate shipping bulky items.

 

What about ordering assembled diffs and swapping over the locker? Then just sending back the cores

 

I do too, but if I just paid them a little bit for their shipping materials/labels it would be easy to just toss my stuff in and send it on it's way.

 

could do that, but that involved me getting into the diffs myself again, which would be nice to avoid. I'm not sure how the warranty holds up on their stuff if I'm in there dealing with the locker.

True. I feel like items like this should really be shipped in a wooden crate of sorts. But who knows. Be interesting to see how they ship their products from their shop. Ever thought about reusing the shipping materials that the new assemblies come delivered in?

 

well problem is, they need my old stuff before I get the new stuff lol. they could send me all new stuff and me send back old stuff like Trey said, but that goes into me swapping over the locker yada yada

 

Looks like if you had an e-locker you wouldn’t even have to mess with taking yours out. They just send you an e-locked 3rd for your e-locked 3rd

 

Ive had to break in 2 sets of gears. It kind of sux. ECGS is 150 miles away for me, not tooo bad. 30 minute cooldowns every 50 miles or so for the first 500 miles, cant recall exactly. They can likely ship you the new thirds, then you can re-use the packing materials and ship it all back. they will refund core charges upon receipt of the cores. the rear third is easy done it twice now, well 3 times. did it twice at AOP the front is not bad. if you can pull out your CV axles and disconnect your driveshaft you are well on your way. the rest is easy. you can do it.

what do you recommend with me having my air locker though? they gave me a good price to send them my 3rds and them do all the work, 5 year warranty and junk, I just want to know the best way to get them my 3rds lol
