    Usually people don't pay attention to this fact! Including myself! Big mistake! From now on I will be more cautious before buying any kind of tire.

    Tis true!! If I could of found a C range tire I would got those. But I was wanting the tires I got now badly so was ready to accept the loss.

    Real 80. My speedo registers about 75-76. Close enough.

    I'd like to regear, but at the same time I don't want my highway rpm's too high - since the trips I go on require a lot of highway travel. =( Seems like regearing is a give and take.

    My friend has 4.10's on 35's and he really likes that compromise. Says it works great.


    edit: my truck has 60k miles.

    Dang, yall have me scared to get 285s...and I've had them for 3 years.
    Yep, they drug my truck down, but I have a 2.7 auto. Nothing 2k in gears didn't fix. :D:annoyed::D

    It was a joke! I was referring to the fact that how the truck performance could change so much, with such a little change as just a few inches more of rubber. Not everyone has 2k or more to re gear.

    I switched to 285/70/17 P rated Falken Wildpeaks and haven't noticed any difference. I'm surprised by how over dramatic people are on this forum

    Yeah, my son's DCSB has 35s on it with stock gears. He says it's just fine, but he's not afraid to put his foot in it and he doesn't pay for his own gas. :frusty:

    There will be a power loss. Everyone has their own definition as to what is acceptable. I'm staying with 265/75/16's which are an inch taller than stock. I can tell a difference, and that is as much as is acceptable to me.

    Remember for every 1" taller tire, you only gain 1/2" of ground clearance. For me about 32" is the best compromise on a Tacoma. I'm gaining about 1/2 more ground clearance over stock with very few negatives. I don't have to modify the truck in any way, power loss is something I can live with. My odometer and speedometer are close enough to not worry about, and the tires are cheaper.

    Going to 33's is an expensive upgrade just to get another 1/2 of clearance. You'll need a lift, probably a regear, probably new wheels and the stress usually means shorter wheel bearing life as well as other premature worn parts. If I'm going to the trouble and expense to lift and regear the truck I'd go with 35's and skip right over 33's.

    Those tires are 8lbs lighter per corner than my E rated Coopers. I think everyone is trying make the point that diameter isn't the only factor, but tire weight is what will really eat your power and MPGs.

    even at 67.5 lbs per corner on 265/75/16 p-rated's + wheel i noticed MPG seems to take an accelerated hit above 77-78 mph. 70-75 is fine but get above that and this little truck eats gas big time. Thats not scientific at all btw, pure anecdote from driving interstate

    What brand/model is the lightest 285? Anyone know off the top of their head? I was thinking about Falken Wildpeak AT3W's but who knows. Pretty sure they are lighter than my stock duratracs.

    Edit: nope 15lbs heavier per tire.
