I know...giving benefit of the doubt, always open to be proven wrong or mistaken. Very happy with my Tacoma, would have been PERFECT with MORE torque and tough as nails paint.

Did you end up doing it?

2,000 miles later the TSB still feels better than stock used to be but not as good as it felt when it was driven out of the dealer so I was thinking of doing the same and seeing if it's all just in my head.

The only change for me is that the throttle is not as good as it used to be, for example I might push it a bit and it will accelerate for a second or two and then drop a gear and accelerate again.

When the TSB was fresh, it was easier to regulate the throttle and know exactly what was going to happen if you pushed it to a certain point, now not all the time.

Is 30 mins the minimum amount of time required?

Didn't do it yet. But my experience has been the same as yours- exactly. Still much better than before the TSB for sure. But that lagging pedal is back, just as you described.

I'm not sure what the required time is to have the battery unhooked to reset the ECU. I think it's like 15-20 minutes. I just do 30 to ensure that it happens.

Yep, lagging pedal is definitely the culprit then since everything else seems alright.

I gotta point out that looking back on this, it wasn't a gradual decrease. I took a long road trip during a weekend in which I had to drive like a grandma at a constant speed and the week after that it felt degraded but I thought it might have been in my head.

I don't know if maybe that caused it, since usually I will drive like I'm being chased. That's how I drove it from the moment I bought the truck and besides the poor throttle, I never really had any issues with the transmission dancing or whatever.

Cool I will try as well and we will see what happens.

Why do people ask for a T-SB that’s specifically for high altitudes when they are not at high altitude? If you’re not at high altitude describe the conditions mentioned in T-SB-0058-18 and demand they perform that update. IT’S THE SAME UPDATE!

He showed them both and they got hung up on the high altitude one.

I'm only at 900' and got the high altitude TSB. My truck had a wicked stumble. That is completely fixed so I have been quite pleased.
I'm not sure what qualifies as High altitude and I can see some dealers pushing back.

I am completely willing to be proven wrong on this, but I think they give people a hard time because the more documented cases of acknowledging and attempting to treat an issue, the closer they get to possibly having to issue a recall, which I imagine for a transmission/engine combo issue could be extremely costly for Toyota. I’ve been wondering if that’s why in their write ups they often change the language we use to describe the issues.

I have been to two Toyota dealers, the first without knowing there was an update. Two people acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about while a younger mechanic who drove with me completely acknowledged the issue. Then I found out about the TSB’s and got the updates done where I bought the truck.

I have essentially the same experience as others, better than before but still quite irritating, sub-par, and potentially dangerous for a 40k truck.

I then put in a follow up email to Toyota corporate, and had a case opened based on the potential dangers of a sometimes unpredictable throttle response and flaky transmission. They called and basically said there’s no recall at this time but that they are aware of the issue. It was basic customer service and there was to be no resolve in that moment.

My plan is to open a case a week until they sort this out, I hope everyone else does the same, the more documented cases, the more chance they will be forced to respond. If we band together and stay diligent, we can win this and finally stop being frustrated with our beloved trucks.

Ha ha, I know thats emo, but I’m serious.

Also, I’m totally down with potentially going the OV tune route, but dropping almost another grand to correct an issue on a brand new 40k truck just feels like some bull$h!t when Toyota should be sorting it out and making this right.

Well said. Guys, if you aren't 100% satisfied, open a case with Toyota. Call customer service at 800-331-4331. I've got multiple issues with my 2018 and unless they hear about these issues in numbers, I have little faith this stuff will be worked out. How else will they know if you don't call?

These issues with 3rd gens go back to 2016. Not acceptable in my opinion. Even if they don't get this trans issue resolved in the next year- maybe they will in 18 months. IF YOU CALL.

I've said before-- the TSB is a marked improvement. Is there room for more improvement? Call Toyota and maybe we'll see it eventually.

It shouldn’t matter. I can go from 150’ above sea level to 3000’ above sea level in 3 hours, and still be in the same state.

Any dealership that doesn’t understand that low altitude areas are connected to high altitude areas by these things called roads should have the whip cracked on them by corporate.

It doesn’t matter. T-SB-0058-18 applies the same fix and has nothing to do with altitude. I don’t know why some people get stuck on T-SB-0062-18.

If it's the same fix then why are you hung up on people not using 62-18? You sound just like the dealership now.

I understand that and agree. I'm just saying I got the high altitude one at 900' because that tsb listed the symptoms I had. I didn't have to go to the dealer and say a magic phrase to get it installed.

Regardless it shouldn't be as difficult getting the update as its made out to be.

Because I didn’t have a surge between 40 and 50 mph, but I had a stumble at WOT. I just happen to not live at a “high altitude.”

I’m just saying why invite conflict when you don’t have to. Regardless, the dealerships shouldn’t be fighting anyone on this.
