Play some obscure sport. That's a good way to do it.

I'm trying to get better at Golf. My father used to go out every weekend and play golf with the CEO of his company, was crazy. I'm nowhere near as good as him. He has some pretty nice custom golf clubs, too bad he's left handed.

Without starting a holy war, I think private Christian schools do a better job with the funds.

The California public school system K-12 is a mess.

My private Catholic elementary school didn't know shit about handling public grants.

They renovated the private coach's bathroom in the gym that NO ONE uses, while the public one in the lobby is still rocking the original 1965 fixtures and finish.

They did get a windfall of cash from T-Mobile after they installed a cell tower on the property, though.

B.S. in Computer Engineering. I'm in the right region for this industry so I don't see a problem making money, if I do manage to complete my degree. I'm fortunate enough that I have a college fund set aside, so money is no issue.

I take it back. I used the coach's bathroom. It was very well done, granite floors, tile backsplash, Moen fixtures...

That was my private shitter for two years, and it was beautiful.

I don't disagree with you there.

It also depends on your definition of "better". I don't personally think teaching creationism outside of Sunday School is a good use of funds on any level.

But part of that is because the funding keeps getting diverted to private and charter schools because of "school choice"

I'm not a huge fan, but Dave Ramsey is always good for a comedy gold nugget with these types of calls. Caller: Dave, I borrowed $300k in student loans how do I pay them back? Dave: As a medical doctor your should have no problem paying those loans back. Caller: Dave, I'm an elementary school teacher making $38k a year.

I agree with the whole choosing the right major thing too. I have a friend who did get into Cal Poly (an expensive ENGINEERING school)... for Gender Studies.

Gee, I wonder why he got in so easily.

Yep. My wife works for the County Planning dept, and there's all these rules about where you can put cell towers etc (they generally need to be low profile, out of sight, etc... The local jesuit school, however, put up a giant fugly tower. You know why? Because the school would (and has) cried religious freedom if the country tried to regulate them the same way they do everyone else. So, they're basically untouchable.

Also there's regs on building height. But guess who built a super duper tall tower with a lowercase "t" on the top. Yep...

All the Catholic schools in the Bay Area are ultimately run by the Diocese, think about it like the school being a McDonalds and the Diocese being McDonald's Holdings.

There is a cell tower in my rural home town that's made to look like a tree, except it doesn't at all, it looks like a giant brown and green cell tower haha

We have one of those too.

Except this is California, and they put a 'Pine Tree' in the middle of a Palm Tree grove.

Public schools waste a lot of money on useless shit. There's a lot of high schools sports programs that make no sense financially.
