School isn't just to make you memorize shit. It's to learn. There's something to be said about learning how to weld or fix a datsun, but at a certain point you become a one trick pony if that's ALL you know. Hopefully with trade schools, there are still ways to broaden your horizons and learn about art, culture, society, or other stuff.

It's also not all about the money, either. English, History, Art, Government, or basically any liberal art teacher didn't get into it for the monies and the honies. It's something they are (usually) passionate about. Those career paths you mentioned usually end up staying in academics and teaching. Which isn't a bad thing.

No Sugar Momma. I played to my strengths and made some opportunities for myself. Some would call it Risk, I call it strategy. Most things I tried failed.

Stop talking in the past. There will mostlikely be a tomorrow. If you want to make money then stop justifying why you're not.

I could have made a LOT more money than I make now had I gone into petroleum geology. I chose the government scientist path, partly out of pure coincidence as the job practically fell in my lap.

Probably could have made even more had I decided to take my clothes off in front of a camera (the camera adding 10 pounds works to my advantage here). There's a lot of demand for left-handed gingers, so I've been told. Could'a made it big.

Nothing wrong with teaching, it's one of the few things I can do with my degree. And I'll probably cash in on that when I move back to WA, make that cursed school pay me for a bit. I don't take issue with the idea of learning, hell I enjoyed it a bit, graduated with honors and didn't actually think it was Uber tough. But that said none of it was long term interesting to me, I'd much rather learn about cars EFI systems and theory and metallic processes. I like to, and I do learn better when I can both learn in theory then practice. But college was a lot of theory, test, move on, forget, relearn, test, move on, so on and so forth. It all felt rather outdated.

Unfortunately it's not until you get to the grad school that you actually start applying all that crap.

Most 1st year grad classes are basically relearning the crap you forgot in undergrad.

Not that I'd know, I have a BS. But many friends, my wife, have graduate degrees is this is what they said.
