Yeah I know. I'm thinking about trading it in. I hate this truck. I've had 4 Tacomas, my 2008 with 200,00 miles isn't as noisy as this

And this is why Toyota needs to get their crap together. Very soon and Jeep and Ford would love to have your business with a shiny new Ranger or Scrambler. I’m seeing less and less owner loyalty nowadays so Toyota needs to get the inexcusable flaws worked out. I view this howling inexcusable. It’s not normal and we all know it. Best of luck to you but as long as you own this one, sound off to corporate.

I've had 6 Tacoma's over the last 20 years. Loved 5 of them. The 3rd gen I have now is junk. That's how I'm "feeling" about this current one. The shift mapping (or transmission? Or engine?), the diff howl... Absolute junk. And I've been unimpressed with corporate's approach to dealing with the diff howl issue. Spread the word.

My hope now is that I might prevent someone else from "trading up". If you have a 2nd gen and are thinking about a 3rd gen... watch your step. It's risky, no doubt.

After a month of back and forth... I finally got the dreaded "your truck is normal, it's running like all the other Tacoma's". It's actually getting worse by the week.

Keep up the good fight, fellas.

They’d be making a huge mistake telling me that. I don’t sleep much at all, literally maybe 2 hours at best a night, so I have plenty of spare time at night. I would be emailing Lentz and Akio Toyoda nightly. They’d be so sick of me until they’d fix my truck or buy me another one. Ha!

Just called Toyota and started a case. They are forwarding my info and concerns to a case manager and I should hear back from them by the end of business day on Monday. We all need to be calling them and keeping up the fight. I am on the fence about trading mine in and would go to a 4runner if I did, but I hear they are having howling issues as well.

The first two weeks, I was really wanting to trade mine back. I was sooo disappointed. But now I decided I'm going to keep pressing Toyota on this issue. Because I feel like I got screwed. This whole situation is straight up wrong.

Stand firm. Tell them you'll settle for nothing less than a truck that makes no noise. They either fix yours or give you one that doesn't howl. A TSB that results in 60% less sound isn't a solution as far as I'm concerned.

You're not alone! There are lots of us in this boat. Keep it floating, friend.

One look at the auto edition of Consumer Reports confirms that Toyota is not the company it once was. Still good, but not at the top of the mountain.

And it’s their fault. Too much cost cutting.

My 20 year, 6 Tacoma run with Toyota may be done after this 3rd gen fiasco. Funny how quickly one issue can affect one's perception of a brand.

I am with you feeling like you were screwed. Bought this truck after owning a 3rd 4runner for 9 years and thought it would be nice to own new. However I agree with an above poster that Toyota does not seem to be what it once was....

Once I hear back I will stand firm. Saw on here that one person received a 6 year 200k mile warranty for free? I am in no way looking for free stuff, just want an issue free truck that I paid for. However, if the howling isnt fixed, thats about the only thing that would get me to keep it. But then the only other thing I would want would be a 4runner which puts me back in the same boat of possibly having whining issues again. lol And Wranglers are too over priced.

Here's the deal. Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem. It's solving the problem on some trucks. It's NOT solving the problem on other trucks.

For those trucks on which the TSB isn't successful, they're trying to end the "conversation" with some variation of "vehicle is operating as it should be. Everything is normal".

Don't be satisfied with that response when you get it. Please. And don't let the conversation end. Keep pressing them for further action, for whatever YOU decide seems like a fair resolution. That's up to you to decide (or you and an attorney).

What's happening isn't right or fair. They're selling trucks that make weird noises. And the response from dealers and corporate is varied. It's all over the map. As far as I'm concerned, I dont care what is making the noise. Nor do I need an explanation. I just want a truck that doesn't make weird noises.

And when you read here about guys looking at 3rd gens, let them know what your experience has been like. The thought of one more person spending $38k on a truck that's gonna disappoint them doesn't sit well with me. Let alone weeks of phone calls and trips to the dealer.

Dealer did the TSB on mine today and it didn't stop the noise. They're replacing the diff tomorrow. I'm not feeling so good about that now either.

Spoke with my Toyota case manager today and they want me to take it back to the dealer for another review.... $39k MSRP and a rear end that howls like a $500 beater. Wonder if I'll get the same or different excuse this time.

I've been going through the same thing since a couple days after I drove mine off the lot. We are approaching 2 months. Shameful. Tick tock...

My wife took the truck in today. They are going to put a new differential in and see if that will fix it. They also gave us a loaner vehicle. Said the truck should be finished Friday. Standing by for results.
