ICON RXT Leaf Springs, Option 2 or Option 3?

I’m about to get these ICON RXT leaf springs installed on my 2011 Tacoma Long bed. I’m trying to decide on what to go with, option 2 or option 3.

My truck has a Snugtop shell which roughly weighs 250lbs along with hi left jack, tool box, 20lbs Powertank, Camping gear, etc...

Anyone out there that has the ICON RXT Leaf pack set at option 2 or 3? If you do, what’s your experience with these leaf springs and if possible can you share a picture of your rig? Thanks

 

I'd like to see answers to this myself. I'm inclined to go with an OME setup from Wheelers but the Icon kit doesn't cost a whole lot more. Would love to hear pros/cons.

 

If you just have the shell I would do option 2, which is how they come, the option 3 you need to break them down to put the extra leaf in. We install these all the time and the 3rd option I wouldn't use unless you have a camper, plus roof top tent plus tool boxes and rear bumper with swing out.

 

Both are great, I haven't done any side by side comparisons on the exact vehicle but my seat of the pants feel is OME are a little stiffer and the Icons provide more lift with less harsh of a ride. It's really hard to compare them both with out having extended seat time with both of the springs. BUT you really can't go wrong with either.

 

Just to confirm: Option 2 despite that I have a camper shell with hilift, PowerTank, spare 33” tire, tool box with camping gear?

What would happen if I went with option 3? Would it ride too stiff?

 

No with that weight you'd be ok I believe but it would sit higher. That's not a huge amount of weight IMO. We had a bed cage, roof top tent, full size 35in spare, floor jack, C02 tank and two rotopax. On just the 3 leaf add pack and it sat fairly level with a little rake up in the back.

 

I run option one on my truck and love it. I have no weight in the bed 95% of the time. When I tow it sits perfect.

 

I just did option 2, 2 weeks ago. Finally tried them out last weekend and I had around 500 lbs in the back with no sag I could see.

 

I run option 3 camper, rear swing out and roof top tent not pictured still has a tiny bit of rake when loaded.. It really rides nice when empty though glad I went this route.

Glad i came across this thead. My RXT’s are the last part of my lift i’m waiting to show up. Icon seems to be having issues getting them made and its been 3 months of waiting so far. I’ve been contemplating option 2 or 3 myself. Its going on my 2011 dclb w/ topper, and 130 lbs of tools in the bed.

Like @04TacoRunner I'm running option 3. I've got an AllPro dual swing out rear plate bumper, BAMF bed rack, HiLift and some other odds and ends and I feel that setting 2 would not be enough to provide a decent amount of lift.

 

Installed Option 2 because I liked the height and anticipated armor+spare 33. Slight rake. Picture above is unloaded and does not change with 250lbs in the bed but does keep my tires on the ground better. Unloaded ride quality also improved after settling for a couple months.

 

So has anyone gone with something other than the rxt icons in the rear? Just curious what alternative people are using successfully. Cant quite swing that kinda coin at the moment

 

I got the RXT leafs on a gamble because I hadn’t seen anyone talk about them. I would have gone Dakar because of all the great things I’ve heard. They can be stiff if you ride unloaded though. Just search for one of the countless threads on them.

 

Dakar is another great option. The RXT seem to ride a little better but again that's not based off a seat of the pants feel. I haven't extensively tested both together.

 

Dakars are around $425... Cash price for me.

 

Sorry guys I left out shocks in the one post. I meant running a different shock other than the rxt shocks.

I already ordered the RXT leaf packs, but icon has had issues with the manufacturer and material availability i was told. Just got off the ph with wheelers and looks like mid Oct is when they will be ready.

 

They should work with any shock assuming they’re for the 2-3” lift range, right? You maybe won’t get the same amount of flex but personally I think the side-mounted lower eyelet is more of a gimmick

 

As long as the compressed length of said shock is enough then yes. At full droop or extended length the shock is going to be the limiting factor.
