2tr-fe interference or non?!

Hello! Im Wondering if anybody can tell me conclusively if the 2tr-fe is a interference or non-interference? I had some timing chain rattle recently and my truck died, opened the valve cover and found the chain intact but a black plastic chain guide jingling loose inside, I'm trying to determine weather replacing the timing chain kit will get me up and running or if I may have damage to the valves or head?

In *general* (there are exception), chain means interference, belt means non-interference.
In this particular case, its a chain, and it is (as in the general case, and as per previous response) interference.

Umm, no, that is patently false...many belt motors are interference engines as well as some chain motors that are NOT interference.

 

Yep. Most Hondas are interference.

and have a look down in the cylinders. Cheap easy and will give you peace of mind.

Here is a list of interference and non interference engines. Most of the engines on this list are interference. Although it doesn't say which ones have a belt, it's a pretty safe bet that it's more than half of them. Although your logic would conclude that the manufacturers care about bent valves, the reality is that they don't.
