Anybody else experience a cracked OEM windshield rather easily? I have always had great luck with new vehicles with OEM glass. I know it's hard to quantify the veracity of what appeared to be a small pebble hitting the windshield but instead of what I would expect to be a tiny chip I got a huge crack.
Initially it was a big chip on impact, then a moment later it expanded to about 3". I parked the truck(I was on my way to work) and when I came out at the end of the day it was a winding crack across 3/4 of the windshield.
I unfortunately have never carried glass coverage through my insurance, but I just added it should this happen again.
I guess I'm just ranting to see if these are flimsy/crappy windshields or not. Additionally, has anyone bothered to replace them with OEM glass? Is it a ripoff? I haven't called to get quotes as of yet.
    Thanks for reading.

They're weak. Had three chips turn to cracks on the last windshield. The rocks hitting it should have left pits based on their size, but ended up leaving big ol craters. One hit near the bottom of the window and left a impact circle that went about 3/4 the way thru the window, almost completely through into the interior. Now I just got a pit that was about 1mm in size and its already starting to grow after 1 month, currently 3-4 mms. Hopefully I can get it filled, I dont know though since it looks like a tiny pit, which is why it's so odd that its cracking.

    It’s honestly just bad luck.

My wife has had her Subaru windshield replaced 3 times in 4 years. Yet I don’t even have a chip

I've never had to replace a windshield in a vehicle (driving over 20 years) aside from a bad wreck many years ago. Until the Taco. 2 windshields in a year and a half and I fully expect I'll be replacing more.

:annoyed:My Tacoma has 2000 miles on it when it got its first big ol chip. Luckily I got it filled that day and it didn’t spread. But I had a Honda Accord for 2 and a half years and didn’t have any chips that bad to be filled. Now my 4R has 6000 miles and she just got a nasty chip that needed filling.

I'm averaging a crack every 4-6 months. Never cracked a windshield before this truck. And used to drive around construction sites. Now I drive alone on third shift. I'll let you draw your own conclusions

I just got hit last Thursday by what seemed to be a pebble no bigger than the head of a pin. It left a crater and a 1 inch crack. Geico had safelite come out next day and fix it. It’s all good now, but honestly, I’ve taken hammers to windshields and barely made a mark let alone crack it on first whack.

Thanks for all the feedback...sucks our windshields are weak. I love the truck but am really feeling like quality assurance etc has gone downhill in many aspects specifically compared to the 2nd gen. I'm really not opposed to getting a 2nd gen with some miles on it possibly. I'm planning on parking my $40K plus truck for a while and driving a beater back and forth to work. Sorry...just adding to my rant :)

I wouldn't get too upset about it. I still like my 3rd gen way more than I liked both my 2nd gens. Just is what it is . Keep sealing the cracks and maybe you'll get lucky and avoid cracks. I've got the OR and we had a chance to compare the 2nd gen reaction to the 3rd gen. Was pretty cool.

It’s because of the “rock n roll” the kids are listening to these days! Lol

I had a 6cyl mustang from about half a football field away throw a pebble and crack mine.

....I'd be angry too if I was a 6cyl mustang . Lots of angst
