Sliders - What should I paint / line them with?

I recently ordered some sliders for my truck and I’m debating what I want to paint and or line them with. They are not going to see a lot of abuse but they will get used.

What do you guys think? What has worked for you?

Well I finally got my sliders and after going back and forth trying to decide what to paint them with I finally settled on Rust-Oleum Truck Bed Coating for the following reasons.

1. Repairable
2. Price (about $8 a can at AutoZone)
3. Texture (the coating is not slippery when wet)
4. Easy of application (sprays on very easily, no messy rollers)

I wanted to give a quick update to anybody curious to how my choice is holding up. Well the Rust-Oleum Truck Bed Spray I give it a 10 out of 10 for the text texture it give the slider but only a 5 for durability. It has had a tendency to chip and require frequent touch up... I would not recommend the product unless you are ok touching them up fairly often due to rocks from daily driving.

One more tip to anybody the goes the bolt on slider route when it comes to drilling through the frame it will be a 100000X easier drilling if you put your drill on a floor jack (like an upside down drill press) and have one person drilling and the other person SLOWLY raising the jack (it’s not a race go slow). I have no idea how anybody can drill through that frame without this trick. If this doesn’t make sense let me know and I’ll do a write up.

I really like the texture. It's not too gritty and not to smooth.

 

I used paint on mine- but I'm thinking about getting some roll on bed liner. Gotta have the ability to patch/repair it.

 

when I get a chance to order rock sliders...I will get them powder coated...

 

Either paint or Herculiner that you buy at the department stores.

 

I have the avid off road ones & they are powdercoated... already taken some nice abuse

When I get mine I'm probably going to use Rustoleum Hammer finish...

 

I would get something that you can easily spray back on when the paint gets scraped off. Get some of that walmart spray on bedliner stuff (kinda expensive), or just get some black spray paint(cheap and easy). Keep a can laying around for touching up when you get back.

 

I Painted mine with Bed Liner and then Put Grip tape so in the snow/ mud you dont slip as easy.

 

Mine are Rhino Lined and they are not showing signs of any abuse.

 

Just got done painting mine today, i used self etching primer and rustoleom hammered spray paint. They look great and should be really easy to touch up.

When i weld them on i'm planing on using griptape on the tops so there not so slippery.

 

mine i painted with black satan spray paint and its been 6 months+ and it held up great and i do ALOT of off roading and gravel road driving and rocks flying into them everywhere......
spray paint is the way to go

 

I really like the grip tape idea.

 

This stuff, never com off. cause it's probably bare metal you can just apply two outer coats and done.

just ordered some sliders from Avid, I just bought some spray on bed liner, so well see how that holds up.

 

appliance epoxy works very well on motorcycle frames, i bet it would work well in this case too

I was in the same boat. Ended up doing three coats primer and three oats of rustoleum hammered.

It sucks. Chipping like crazy. Surface rust popping up. They only been on for maybe 8 months. I plan on sanding them a little and spraying maybe rustoleum bedliner.

If I could redo it again I would have went:

First pick 1. Line-x or rhinoed
Second 2. Some type of spray on bedliner.

I’m currently leaning towards Line-X or Rhino. A local Rhino liner dealer quoted me $100 to spray the sliders (off truck) and I’m waiting to hear back from the Line-X dealer.

Has anybody here ever used Line-X or Rhino on sliders? I’m curious how much abuse they can take. A truck bed is one thing, sliding against a rock is entirely different.
